F1 to return to US in 2012 in

Austin Tx. ten year deal, custom built curcuit for F1, within 10 mi of airport. Glad to see F1 back here with in driving dist for me, just wish it wasnt iin TX, but hey. Save me 500 airfare to montreal.

A few years back when they were searching for a track they checked out Elkhart Lake(WI). They said $4mil. in repairs, upgrades blah, blah, blah and we will think about it. We know how that worked out, would have been an hours drive for me:(

Not a big race fan, but they sort of wore out their welcome here in Indy when they pulled that crap with drivers sitting out the race due to tire safety concerns. The city didn’t fight real hard to keep them around. Hopefully the Austin track will be more to their liking.

The technology behind the cars is pretty cool. The F1 racing itself is OK. I’d say good luck with the relationship to Austin I hope it works out. F1 comes in and demands tons of cash and lets crap like the Indy incident happen and then turn around and bad mouth the very same people that have supported the race. Maybe Austin will be good…F1 is getting a purpose built facility that F1 will probably demand that it only gets used for F1. Good luck trying to get a return for that investment!

Its been a good F1 season so far this year and it would be great to see an American Grand Prix again. F1 is sort of like soccer - has a fanatical following in every country in the world except the USA. If there is an American driver then US interest picks up. When Phil Hill and Mario Andretti won the F1 championships the interest in the USA picked up dramatically. Texas might not be such a bad location.

Its hard to beat Montreal as a venue to host a F1 race. Apparently Montreal is the #2 favorite after Monaco.

I didn’t know the F1 went anywhere - - I’ve seen one on every keyboard I’ve handled.

Correction, if there is an American driver doing good, interest picks up.
Scott Speed, from Manteca, CA, drove for Red Bull/Minarti from 05-07. His best finish in a race was 9th (i.e. never earned a point). No one gave a damn.
