Expired Recovery Drink - Can that happen?

I just noticed that the Recovery drink (Endurox) I have been taking for a while expired in June. How does powder expire? Is it more of a sell-by date than an actual expiration date?

Solid phase degradation occurs but I wouldn’t worry about a 3 month past expiry energy drink. In some cases degradation products can be very toxic. This happens alot with chemotherapy and other drugs. They probably set an ex date for two reasons. 1) To make you buy more. 2) There may be a taste impact.

Mix up a bottle for you buddy first. If he drops dead don’t drink it

wouldn’t worry about it.

All food items have to have an expiration date per the FDA. Look at bottled water, it has an expiration date.
So, yes the protein will break down over time, but not in a manner that will hurt/harm you in any way in the near future. (The protein breaking down in called denaturing, which is also what happens when an egg goes from liquid to scrambled egg).

I would say that it is more of a sell-by date.

Personally, I often eat various items past their expiration dates.
