So, with IMFL selling out in 45 minutes this morning, it got me thinking. If the world championship was split into 2 races - women on Saturday and men on Sunday, they could have more qualifying races and bring more cities into the Ironman mix, expanding the sport across the nation and world. May I suggest Austin, Texas as the next IM to add to the mix?
Is there enough infrastructure around Kona to effectively double the number of athletes that could be there?
Good idea though.
not enough rooms, not enough volunteers…

Traffic issues too. Cruise ship scheduling. More than a few reasons why it wouldn’t work.
Don’t forget, all of us men actually want to race with the fast ladies. If not, we’d just be getting thumped by all the fast Germans. At least this way, we have company ![]()
It’s a great idea and makes perfect sense, but like many great ideas in this sport, it’s one that I guess would never be acted on for a vareity of reasons.
Here’s another - have the pro race on one day and the AG race on th other. Another great idea that will likley never get acted on.
