Ever pull a 'Dream Crusher'?

A friend of mine has a race this season where he plans to just hammer the swim and bike, and then slow-roll or DNF the run. Says it’s for focused training purposes or something. I suppose if you have money to burn, it’s like a catered training day… Just curious, anyone else see it this way?
I’d ask if anyone ever phones it in on the swim and then hammers the bike and run - but then I realized that covers over half of triathletes anyway

Wait, I thought a “dream crusher” was where you post on here and your blog about how many dreams you were going to crush in an IM, and then showing up and having a mediocre day. Or is that a “faulkner”? Its been so long that i don’t remember.

To answer your question, I have a good friend who had a bad stress fracture from running last may, showed up at our big 1/2 IM, and killed the swim and bike, then DNF’d in T2 as to not aggravate his leg. I saw him just chatting in T2 and was thinkg WTF, but found out later why.

And as a side note, dude was the first ever double lung transplant patient (thanks to cystic fibrosis) to finish an IM. Sweet, huh?
