I’m taking a week off work between the 1st and 7th of may (first time since '02) and I want to do a race. I live in Chicago so clearly there’s nothing in the immediate area this time of year. If any southerners have any suggestions, I’d appreciate it. I’m willing to drive as long as 10-12 hours.

I believe there is a half-IM distance event on May 7th down in Panama City. I think its called the Gulf Coast 1/2 IM Triathlon but don’t quote me on that!!

Come join my undertrained self down here for the race. Once you get through the swim, everything’s flat, and the bike course is mostly far enough inland that the crosswinds shouldn’t be bad.

There is a “road race” on May 1st put on by yours truly. The race has an 11 mile circut with 3 miles of dirt roads per lap. Race distances 22-77 miles.
