I can’t believe you posted a pic of a bike with Shimano components.
What’s the world coming to?
Heck, he even likes a down tube shifter for the front.
I just looked at the Trek websight. All the top models have conventional headsets, all the Madone's and the 5000. Once you get down to the 2000 (OCLV) you get internal. Now I think I know why manufacturers like internals. They save money on them. When you sell as many bicycles as Trek, you save a lot of money
“All the top models have conventional headsets”
Need we say any more. How about a mass boycott against integrated headsets. Maybe then they’ll start to get it.
I know this was partially covered before in an earlier thread, and I’m far from a bike tech guru, but i think you need to be careful between true integrated headsets, in which the frame itself is milled to serve as the race for the bearings and headsets such as the Record “Hiddenset”, which look outwardly like integrated headsets but include their own replaceable races. Correct?

Remember that all the top models are carbon and therefore would require a mold change to accomadate any change, even a headset. When Trek is forced to retool for any reason, you can expect to see whatever is the latest trend in headsets from them. The lesser expensive bikes are retooled easily, they can make these changes with relative ease.
One should not interpet the high end bike vs low end bike headset as a corpoate philosophy or as a sign of quality. It’s simple logistics.
Dunno WTF your beef is, but I dig them. Soooooooo much cleaner and modern. My Colnago C40HP has the “conventional” style… I think it just looks old school.
Maybe you want to swap your pedals out for the cage style toe clips that match that headset? ![]()
