Eurobike Update

Any word on the unveiling of new bikes, colors etc… from eurobike. It started in Germany today.

From the looks of the new Zipp crank it is still an ISIS BB, which is odd. Would love to see their rationale behind sticking with an arguably outdated BB.

I was wondering that myself…perhaps Josh@Zipp could provide some insight. But…they look very nice indeed and I am sure Zipp has a reason. Did you happen to notice the new DA Carbon crank?

I think you can still get a lower Q-factor. FSA stuck with the ISIS BB for longer on the TT cranksets (just this year came out with the integrated NEO) because of that. That may be their reasoning.

Any idea if they’re finally gonna make a compact (110mm BCD)?

The new zipp crank will be external.

No no, I know that, but with the push to ceramics and whatnot, I was surprised that it LOOKS like it is still ISIS. Someone has mentioned that it is external, but I wonder if they’ve developed something themselves or whether FSA is licensing their design to Zipp? I know in the new 08 Cannondale catalog it looks as awful lot like the crank on the SLice Ultimate says Zipp by Cannondale or something like that and I know FSA makes the Cannondale cranks, so…

What I want to know is when we’re going to see zipp producing a bike. Sorry, when I say “a bike” I mean; the most aero bike the world has ever seen!

Can you imagine how cool it’d be to have a bike that had negative drag?

I hope Zipp does not make that mistake. As soon as they make a frame, other companies will stop showing/specing their wheels on their frames.

"the most aero bike the world has ever seen! "

I’m skeptical unless they’re planning on going to a radical non traditional frame design. Another P3ish copy but with dimples won’t cut it IMO. Hed also produced a frame which was only so-so.

Zipp is probably better off sticking to manufacturing components.

Like the old Zipp 3001, which still probably smokes most of the new frames in the windtunnel? I suspect Herbert is right. My own feeling is that Zipp saw that the amount of money they’d make with a non-UCI legal frame was ultimately going to hurt their bottom line overall since they’d be a competitor with companies that have since become customers, as specing race wheels (or at least showing a bike with them) has now become pretty standard.

Speaking from experience here as we would not spec parts from companies who made frames and the same goes actually the opposite way too. When ABG started to build wheels, Mavic immediately dropped Litespeed as the official neutral support bike.

From what I understand the big problem with isis is the bearing size. If you could go with a biigger bb shell and use bigger bearings isis may be ideal.
