Etap 1x11 on a Scott plasma

Any reason to keep the front derailleur? I am super happy with my frame so I would like to keep that. School me on why it could be a bad idea

As long as you’re running a narrow/wide chainring, then ditching the FD shouldn’t be an issue on “normal” pavement. In the rough, a clutch RD will do the rest of the 15% to keep the chain on without a FD.

Over the winter I got an older plasma 3 frame and built it up as a sram 1x. It’s mechanical though not etap.

Works great. I have 2 cassettes - one for flat courses and one for rolling.

I’ll probably drill out the rivets to the front deralieur and remove it soon. May upgrade to etap down the road. Pm me if you want any pics

Do you ever ride anything hilly? That would quickly make this a bad idea…

I have a road bike for hilly training rides. This is mostly for competitions. Not sure how the setup should be, though.

50 up front and 10-28 in the rear?

For an example of how 1X can go bad check our Joe Skipper on GTN coming out of T1 with his QR on a 1X set up and dropping the chain and the issues to get it untangled and back on…
