Does anybody have any ideas on what gearing I should use for Esprit Tri(iron distance) on track. Should I go with 11-23? I usually ride 11-25 and that is over all kinds of terrain(North/central NJ)
Thanks

I believe the course is flat as a pancake?. 11-23 would be good for that I would think.
Thats what I was thinking. Thanks
its an F1 track, 4k long, and if your doing the IM, your going around it ALOT! - 1 guy last year had a big radio attached to his bike, absolutly hilarious
but yea, 11-23
Like the other said : 11-23. I did it 3 years ago, great race and very fast. Had an average of 35 km/h on the bike and I’m not that strong!
Basically, there are two places that need shifting(a little bump and the hairpin) but you’ll always be on the big ring.
Small tip, during the swim, find the underwater cable and follow it…no head up!
Before starting the race, check underwater at the start, there’s a concrete block that you dont want to hit when you’ll run in the water after the first loop.
Enjoy it!
Concrete block ouch… Thanks
What is the underwater cable for? How far down, Guess i’ll find out.
if you have 11-21 go for it (disc wheel, everything that makes you aero use it)!!! The cable underwater is for holding the buoys of the rowing but also the Triathlon ones. You are going to swim in a giant swimming pool of 100m by 2000m, okay there’s no black lines in the bottom only the cables for buoys.
Good luck
If you have one 13-14-15-16-17-18-19-20-21. There is no where on this course where you need an 11 or 12. In fact, you likely don’t need the 13 or 14 unless you are planning to ride sub 5 hours. The biggest rise on this course is all of 5 ft or so. it is pancake flat. If you are lucky and North Easterly wind, then you get shielded from the wind for the 2K heading North and then for the 2K heading south, you get blown down the track as you whip by pit lane.
I might be there to race the half Ironman…unless I make a trip down to Raleigh to do the Duke Half ironman the weekend before.
You have to do the Half the big studs are going to show-up and it’s going to be just too fasttt…
MTL/Alex…are you racing the Esprit half (ie big studs). I think Flageole is saving his legs for Kona doing the Olympic, and Lavoie is passing on it also saving his legs for Kona. I say there is a 90% chance of me doing the Esprit Half
…what about Ste. Agathe Half ironman next weekend. I’m toying with the idea, but I think my legs are not ready to do the toughest half Ironman in Canada 2 weeks after LP.
Pierre is going to do the Half, I spoke to him this week and know other big stud that are going to show up…Winner will be close to that 4 hours barrier so if you are looking to have a PB Esprit is the place…
I will not be racing…I haven’t started training since IMLP. I will start Wednesday with a little run, I will do Montreal Marathon september 11th… no biking and swimming for the next months… at least until October or November.
See you at the Esprit!!!
