MotionBased was asked by TriCalifornia to track the swim/bike/run disciplines before the Escape From Alcatraz race. Here’s what we came up with:

That is very cool. I have been considering wearing my 301 during the race, but not being able to get a signal on the boat it would start late.

Dennis,

It’s hard to say, the device may get a fix shortly after you jump off the boat. The nature of the swim, with a boat start, is less than ideal for GPS tracking. You may want to skip the swim and meet-up with your device on the bike. I’d power it up in morning, so it has a GPS fix when you arrive, and hit start once you’re pedaling.

If you do track the swim, throw it in a zip-lock. I soaked a FR301 tracking the Alcatraz the swim.
