When I was watching giro TT I saw a bunch of guys using FULL ERGOPOWER in cowhorn bars… How can I make this set-up ???
One of the cables ( brake or derailleur ) goes by air and the other one goes internally… Today me and my LBS tried all the possible set-ups but none of them went internally …
How do they do that ? Do they bend the cable casing very sharp to go behind ???
Does anybody have pictures of the cable set-up for that ?? ( I checked in all Cycling news pics… but didn´t find any good one .)
It can be done - I’ve done it for times when I set up my integrated aerobars with ergos for technical timetrials (ie, those I’d rather shift when going into hard turns or into climbs).
I’ve had both cables go under the bar wrap. Involves a significant amount of cable bending, but you can find an optimal angle to make it go over (out of the ergo unit) and then into the handlebar tape and still get acceptable shifting. In the case you cannot… then it is definetively better to leave the shifting cable going by air to make it sufficiently friction-free from the bendings.
Unfortunately my TT bike is in pieces right now, and I don’t even have my integrated bars on me to provide a schematic. Not much help then.
Good luck and report back on results. In the meantime I will look at the old pics, perhaps I’ll find something to share.
Steep bends in your cables adversely affect your shifting and braking performance. You’d be best to use the jointed cable housing out there if you want to use this set up effectively. Nokon, IRD (used to but I think they’re getting out of it…issues with Nokon I hear), and Delta (a division of Aztec I believe) all make this kind of cable. If you saw the cool gold cables on the ONCE TT bikes during the Tour last year you probably saw the cables I speak of. And they look supercool. Not cheap tho.
