Ergomo Tech/Parts Questions

I am trying to sort out some tech issues with my new Ergomo meter and I am looking for some help;

I bought a new laptop and I am trying to set up my ergomo meter/ ergoracer software. My laptop is a HP Pavilion DV5000 and does not have a serial port adaptor which is what is the configuration required by the ergomo data cable.
Is the solution a USB to serial port adaptor, if so where can I get one?

Next; will my Ergomo charge through the laptop when connected? I ask because the wall charger that came with my ergomo is missing the standard wall socket adaptor and has some crazy looking european ‘connector.’ Where might I find an adaptor to this charger or is it proprietary to Ergomo?

Is there a way to clear all of the data stored in the unit without connecting to a computer? My unit is dead (blank) presumably because I have too much data stored and never downloaded it to trainingpeaks

Any help is appreciated.

I just bought one from Crucible Fitness and it came with an adapter cable to resolve the download conection problem.
It also came with a full array of adapters - I bought it from US and I got a UK adapter.
You should go back to the seller and question why you didn’t get them.
As for clearing the memory - can’t help as haven’t looked to do that yet but would also like to know.

First, you need to buy a USB to serial adapter. The ergomo I bought came with one, but if yours didn’t go ahead and buy a Keyspan brand adapter. I bought mine here: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=srch1&Ntt=keyspan+adapter&N=0&Dx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&D=keyspan+adapter&Ntk=All&product_code=309975

As far as I know, the Ergomo doesn’t charge through the computer. You should have gotten a normal power attachement for the charger. Call whoever you bought it from to get it. I got one and it charges no problem (just need to leave it in for a loooooooong time).

As far as clearing the data, I think you can just press the reset button on the back of the unit with a paper clip. That might also delete settings that you’ve input, like FTP, wheel circumference, etc…, I’m not sure.

Mr Mojo,

You should have received a USB cable with your Ergomo? Ergomo started to include the USB cables a few months ago; not sure if you bought it earlier. If you can’t get one from wherever you bought it, I’d recommend the Radio Shack Serial to USB adapter. Works great.

The Ergomo will not charge when connected to your laptop; in fact, just the opposite, it will drain the battery so don’t leave it connected any longer than necessary.

Email me and I’ll send you the US adapter for your charger.

Too much data should not cause the unit to go dead, sounds like the battery needs to be charged. There is no way to clear the memory without using your PC/laptop but you can “delete trip” so the display goes to zero.

As previous poster said the unit should have come with the adapter. Should be in the metal case.

You can delete the data when linked to the Ergoracer/CP software or do it on the unit itself: Delete trip is the command.

No idea about charging from Laptop

Steve, give me a call, I’ll sort it out for you.

Hey rich, I sent you a PM last week about an ergomo, did you get it?

I will try to help at least a little.

  1. yes USB to serial port adaptor. I think Radio shack has them, I had one from my computrainer(actually came with it) so I just use that one.

  2. I do not believe that the Ergomo will charge when hooked up to the laptop, mine came with multiple plugs in the box that would fit on to the part that sticks in the wall at least 3 different plugs if not more), you just have to find the one that looks standard for you and use it.

  3. I do not know how to clear the data compleatly without the computer. If you have not charged it then that might explain why the screen is blank. You can also push the reset on the back of the unit. I have to do this sometimes when it locks up on me.

IMHO if you are not using training peaks or some other software for the info, you have just bought yourself one hell of an expensive cycling computer. Cateye would have been much cheaper. I hope this helps some, I am sure someone else can hop on and correct anything that I told you wrong.
