Does anyone have any experience with these units?
Recent recall. Do a search on this site. Their customer service guy (I think) posted here. I will probably get one when they get it fixed. Power data without a need to build special wheels.
I liked mine until I had to send it back under the recall. Can’t wait to get it back on the bike.
There are obviously trade-offs when comparing the Ergomo to other power meters. Polar sounds troublesome. I run HED3’s or HED3/RennDisc immediately eliminating PowerTap. I had to choose between SRM and Ergomo. Ergomo won out based on price.
The computer display is easy to read while riding (easier than the SRM IV). But feature-wise, the computer lacks some simple things like laps/splits/intervals. It is also cumbersome to manipulalate through the various options. It is certainly a ‘first generation’ computer and some redesign woudl be welcome.
Despite the recall and the computer weaknesses, I wouldn’t discourage you from getting one (unless you in my age group – IronStevie, you have to wait a year.).

I like mine and agree with everything rjackson says. Anyone know if it is possible to reset the milage, etc, without doing the full memory clear? I see it somehow breaks workouts up into separate files for download, but I don’t know how it determines they are different workouts rather than a single workout with a pause, and it never resets milage or averages unless it is cleared.

I bought a used Powertap at a good price, and I’m thrilled with it.
If I were buying new and paying retail, I’d get an Ergomo. No brainer. It comes with the must-have CyclingPeaksSofware, and allows you to run your favorite cranks and wheels. I used to care about having the ability to use the power system on two bikes, but I now realize that I only care about power details on the tri bike. When I ride the roadie, I just ride for fun.
The recall was about the spindle strength. Bummer, but a good company that I think can be trusted.
I am looking for one. where did you get yours?
(huh…just kidding of course).
Any idea why all the controls on mine are in French? And the head unit won’t let me change the wheel size unless I can define “Proof”. It’s the strangest thing…
