Ergomo/power meter Question

I was convinced by my coach that buying the new ergomo power meter is the next large purchase for me. That said, I’m extremely clueless about the logistics of purchase/installation.

Anybody use this? Like it?

I have a Guru Chrono’ Alu with 18 speed Shimano 105 front and rear Deraileurs. My crankset is a 53/39 FSA Gossamer. Compact BB FSA MegaXO Integrated. (Plagarized from the Guru gruppo page)

When I buy the Ergomo, the crankset would be changed, right? Will this affect my deraileur set up at all?

The local Triathlon bike shop will be able to install this, correct.

Sorry for the obvious ignorance, but I fear the scenario of buying this piece of equipment and not being able to use it- or having to spend lots of dollars after the initial purchase to be able to use it.

Thanks all,

Kevin

I believe that the Ergomo power meter is a Shimano Octalink splined bottom bracket or Campy square taper. Since you have a FSA MegaExo BB/crankset combo you will need to purchase a new crankset too.

Your derailleurs will be fine, maybe a very slight adjustment but nothing major.

I can’t answer the question with regards to your existing equipment, but one thing I remember is the website or the instructions specifying a re-tapping of something. This does not need to be done. I had mine installed by the bike shop, make sure you bring them the tool that is sent with the unit so that they can tighten it down. Also, make sure you record the number off of the spindle as you will need this to calibrate. Since the bike shop install, I have opened and serviced my bottom bracket three or four times. It’s not really hard.
