Epicman

I`m Trying to find out any info on the lake Placid training race called Epicman. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Plus what are some of your thoughts on using this as a pre race, for the main event?

Thanks, Jon

Is the race you are referring to:

I did it in 2007 and despite the heat that day it was worth it; I had raced Mooseman the weekend before EpicMan and the two events combined made for a nice chunk of volume/intensity with plenty of time to recover for the last big build before taper. I had a solid race at IMLP and I felt that EpicMan and a subsequent training weekend on the course a few weeks later were contributing factors. It’s a great opportunity to get familiar with the course if you haven’t been up there yet, plus to put faces with names in the ST crowd.

See my signature line. For now this is about all the information you will get…show up at 6 am at Mirror Lake Beach ready to swim3k, bike 180K, run 21K and support yourself. It is not a race, just a bunch of guys training together. There might be more info posted here later, or do a search on ST to find out what happened in previous years.

This is like an “anti establishment training day”…grassroots and old school…no timing, no hype, no biggest loser awards, no Reilly making you feel great about youself, no Tshirts, no support, no nothing…just show up and do the distance because it is there…if you want you can brag about it till Sunday nite, but that’s about the extent of what you can milk it for.

Well, there are finishers medals. Or would they be called finishers woods, since there is no metal involved anywhere?

I still have 2 of my 3 E.dot medals hanging proudly in the laundry room (all other lame-ass finishers hardware is banished to one of 3 nails in the garage).
Gave the other one away the middle year, as that was when we had a ton of folks show up, and I wanted to make sure that at least one more finisher got their reward.

I don’t think anybody doing IMLP could ask for a better training event.

For extra Stupid Human Trick bonus points, you could try doing a TT up Whiteface the nite before.
Just don’t be surprised if you are “less than fresh” for the next day.
