Epic Training Weekend, Sprinville, CA Sept 29-30

Hi,

I want to give myself a fitness goal for the next 8wks. My tri club has some knuckleheads racing the 508, another buddy might get a Kona slot, and I want to climb in the Sierras. There is some epic riding out there. I’ll scout routes on the scooter, provide Google Earth files so you can wig about the climbing, might even fire up a special order of IronCamp cycling kit if there is an interest. CF hat is off on this one, lodging, food, transportation, etc is on you, though I could be persuaded to talk shop if plied with wine and enough red meat. I’ll start working up the details after IMLP this weekend but just want to put this on the board to see who bites. If you’re interested, do me a favor and bump this thread a few times but the real planning and discussion will happen over here:

Semper Do Cool Stuff, --------------------------

Hey that’s within driving distance for me…I’d like to hear about the details
.

sounds fun. I’m in for part of it. I actually found a great new route up to California Hot Springs this past week. Good, quiet roads with great scenery, and natural hot springs at the top.
Rich, If you need any help with anything, let me know. I’ll go ahead and volunteer a SAG wagon.

If you have some local knowledge, map some routes at www.mapmyride.com and let’s start getting some suggestions. I’m out of town this weekend and won’t be able to really move on this so if you guys want to get a head start, go for it.

I’ve actually mapped most of the good rides here and have elevation profiles for them, If you let me know the distance/climbing etc that you want, I can throw a few days of different rides together for you and get you cue sheets for when you come scout. we’ve got time though, so it’s no rush.

I’m in! perfect training for the Grizzly.

Probably half day Friday (3-4hrs), all day Saturday (5-7+hrs), half day Sunday (3-4hrs) so people can choose options depending on when they can get up there. I’ll likely have two guys with me doing Kona so a proper thrashing is in order. Bonus if there’s a lake somewhere. If you create routes in MapMyRide I should be able to download the file to my GPS and scout on the motorcycle.

All self-sufficient, sufficiently strong non-dickheads with a sense of humor and at least one (1) bottle of wine > $25 or 1 x 6 pack of non-American beer are welcome to attend. Doesn’t have to be a testosterone-fest (not that there’s anything wrong with that) but I think the course and profiles will self-select the attendees

Anyway, I need something to motivate me. I’ll likely do whacked stuff like this every 8 weeks from now through CDA next year.

My in-laws have a cabin (very small) at Camp Nelson which is near the top of the climb. Good place for re-fueling, water, rest etc. Too small to invite you all to stay :frowning:

Did you tell Dan and Paul Thomas about this?

I would also be available with any help as I live in the area.

Do you have any area in mind for base camp?

Dan or someone in an earlier thread recommended Springville. I haven’t looked into lodging yet.

I’ve got some clients who own the big white barn, I’ll see if we can crash there. they’re pretty cool with letting the Forest service guys use the grounds, so, I dont think they’d mind.

Homey don’t camp and ride a bicycle. Actually, I have a toyhauler, you guys are welcome to sleep under it

oh no, no camping. this pad is sweet! there’s probably 15 beds upstairs. big pond, a coupla kitchens. they do alot of events (at least used to) and weddings there. if you go to google earth and look at the corner of highway 190 and balch park dr. it is the property there.
i however will be sleeping sound at home in my bed with my beautiful wife next to me. and no, there is no room! actually, if someone has a problem paying for a room or something, we’ll have a spare bed and an airmattress avail.
I’ll get you a coupla routes tomorrow when I get to the office, my home pc is a bit slow to load up map my ride.

how about a double, do one camp late August and then repeat in late September? My last race is September 9th then I am going into marathon training mode. If not keep sharing the ideas as I would love to go up to that area anyway and do a camp like you described and would be willing to do it solo if no one else wants to go th end of August and then give feedback for those going in September.

Sounds cool. I’m in for all three days.

And a little bump for the morning crowd . . .

I’ll be coaching at IMKY late Aug

.

well, here’s what I had in mind for the long day. There is one killer, killer climb at the end that I left off of the map, but can be added for a few miles and and few thousand feet.

Sounds like fun to me , I will start to make plans to be there. Close to the same terrain i train on, I’m about 15 miles from Yosemite.
