Here in Phx the turkey day ride is the local tradition. www.turkeydayride.com We all ride (unofficially race) to the top of South Mountain and enjoy hot chocolate and doughnuts before riding back to the start point. While not epic, it’s a great local tradition that continues to grow every year. I think they said there was about 150 riders last year!

Hardly what I would call epic, but a great day for my longest run this fall. Going to get up, enjoy the morning off work, run a nice 12 to 13 miler on the trail, then drive home for dinner!
funny you should ask, i was actually considering doing a 91mile ride to grandma’s for the big feast. i would have to leave my house around 5:30 in the morning (too early for me), so i had pretty much talked myself out of it until reading your post. now im back on the fence
the only thing is we have a big gathering tonight as well, so i’ll probably be up late… decisions, decisions…
Dad and I run a tradition (10 years now) race. We have both been AG podium each 10 years I think and want to keep that tradition as well! He has one nemesis in the 60+ that he can’t seem to beat. I’m fine unless this ex Div 1 CC stud shows up occasionally in my AG (family in town) and pushes me to 2nd (by a lot too).
Then - time to eat, drink and be merry ![]()
Have a great Thanksgiving all - and remember, just about everyone on this board has a LOT to be thankful for.
DO IT!!! Do it for all the people that have snow on the ground and can’t ride their bike but wish they could.
YES!! Going for a nice LONG run and then swim practice at 8:15a, so I’ll be up EARLY!!! ![]()
Actually, thursday is my only day off from running.
Not going to eat that many calories though.

Miami has an old tradition on turkey day with the Countrywalk Ride. Lots of pros, semi-pros and all other wannabees show up for a blistering ride. Crowd is usually over 200. There are 2 groups, the slow guys (i’ll try to be there tomorrow) at probably 20-24 mph and the fast ride which is mostly 30+ mph with lots of sprints and breakaways. There is supposedly a cash price for the first one to finish the fast ride. Distances are I think around 40-50 miles.
Peace
I think you game plan needs re-working jaretj. ![]()
I came up to my house in the “mountains” of NC and will be doing a ride in the morning with a 4,000 elevation climb over 35 miles followed by a 6 mile run. For a guy that lives in the flat lands i guess i will call it my epic Thanksgiving ride/run.
Do it!! That sounds awesome.
Nothing epic for me tomorrow - run in the AM, then heading up to Vail or Breckenridge to ski for the day.
No big epics but we are getting outside for our last outdoor ride before the bikes go in the cases for Laguna Phuket. We’ll be doing about a 35-40 mile ride and then a 4-5.5 mile run. That’s about it before we head to Thailand on Sunday for the race.
will be epically sleeping in tomorrow before heading out the door on my bike for about 40 miles. Will watch the local Turkey Trot race and cheer on some friends.
Probably a 90-minute trail run…nothing out of the ordinary. The Dana Point Turkey Trot is right down the street from my house, but I have to save my $$$ for triathlons.
nothing epic for me either, we do the turkey trot in the morning then race home to prep for dinner which is at our house. I may try to squeeze in something else but with short daylight and family around it is hard. tomorrow is supposed to be in the 60s I think!
I ran the turkey burn off ten miler in Montgomery county, Maryland last year while we were in the USA visiting friends of my wife. It was a nice course so I’d recommend it to anyone in the area, although it’s not an “Epic.” It was put on by the Montgomery County Road Runners Club.
You could consider the Buffalo YMCA Turkey Trot an “Epic” I suppose… Epic in the sense that it’s the oldest road race in the USA I believe. This year is the 111th, same as the Boston Marathon but the Boston race is a few months too late…

no epicness here… rest day ![]()
