As far as I can tell there are 2 ways to enter - starting the day after this years race:
At the race venue; and
Online.
Assuming the “at the race venue option” is not possible; how do you enter online? Where is the site? Is it the race website, or active.com, etc, etc? Do you know, by doing it online you got in straigh away or do you have to wait for a few days for it to be processed?
I think online registration opens at 10:00 a.m. on Monday the 25th, but check with IMNA to verify. It is pretty easy to register. Website is ironmanusa.com. I twill redirect you to active.com. It closed last year within 48 hours.
I believe it is done through Active online so my suggestion would be make sure you have register with the site before registration day. That way (theoretically) you just log in and register for the race.
There is another way, with a couple of bonuses. Take a slot at one of next year’s qualifying races. Typically the number of people looking for slots isn’t much more than the number of slots available, and there are two bonuses:
If you get badly injured between now and then, you don’t lose $425.
You don’t get ripped off by active.com to the tune of $25, or whatever the “processing charge” is these days, since you enter directly through IMNA.
At Eagleman last week 11 of us each wanted one of 10 Placid spots. In St Croix a couple of years ago 3 of us wanted one of the 10 spots!
Yeah, if you are planning on doing one of the halfs next year and don’t feel like shelling out $ in July for a race a year away, you can just get one of the slots (usually after the awards, so makes for a long day) In CA this year only 10 peeps or so wanted one of the 25 for LP. And only 3 for the alocated 25 spots 3 weeks later in AZ.
