very nice - thanks for sharing
.

I’m very impressed if this guy held his position for the entire bike course. My neck and shoulders hurt just looking at it!

that silly Dean Philips.

I’m impressed with race photographs instead of just race pictures.

How does this happen in a race?

Dean can roll. He’s a ex-rower. Unfortunately he got a flat and broke a shifter.

Dean has mastered wind tunnel testing w/o a wind tunnel. He’s an engineer turned fit specialist - www.fitwerx.com. He spent a long time tweaking his position, measuring his drag coefficient with each iteration.

Ahhh…the ex-rower part explains the shoulder strength to hold that position. Again, I’m impressed!

Yeah, I wasn’t even really paying attn, and I noticed his superman position immediately. Didn’t even realize he was rolling a P4.

Dude is a stud rider.

I’m no one to comment, but man his saddle height in that second pic looks HIGH. knee looks locked with his heal raised about 4 inches at what appears to be the bottom of the pedal stroke.

How do you get a new front wheel during a race? I though that kind of help was not allowed.

Either they had neutral support, or you can get help from a fellow competitor. Looking at the wheel, I’m guessing the pros had Mavic neutral support.

More importantly… the guy is riding clinchers. Why didn’t he just change the tube if he flatted? Isn’t that at least ONE of the reasons to ride clinchers?

Super photos.

So sleeveless wetsuits are coming back in???

That Chrissie Wellington sure is amazingly good at triathlon.

If neutral support is close by, then getting a new wheel is faster (even if it is a 28mm deep Ksyrium, not your Zipp 1080).

The pros weren’t allowed to wear wetsuits, so they wore fastskins (same as they do in Kona).

Thanks, I thought that might have been the case. Couldn’t tell from the photos.

Thought they could have been wetsuits as I remembered the photo of a pro from the 2007 Timberman tri:

Great photos! What camera and lens were you using?

Photographers name is at the top of the page. He was a South African guy based in the USA.

Those images created a ‘fair bit’ of feedback when I first made the page up. Plenty of interesting expressions on the athletes faces and clear photos. Must email him again and se what he is up to.

There was recently a water temp change by USTA and, I think, WTc, which made most swims non-wesuit legal. At Eagleman in 2007 it was wetsuit legal for pros but in 2009 it was not, though the water temp was the same. I am sure the information is out there someplace.
