With the elimination of the pro fields at selected IM’s and the increasing removal of the mass swim start wouldn’t it make sense to establish an elite wave for those Age Groupers wanting to go for the overall win? Maybe this has already been addressed and I just couldn’t find anything on it but to me this seems reasonable. It would make for a much better race if you know during the race who is actually competing for the win.
It’s a good idea and I think they are quite likely to do that - either mass start or an elite wave followed by regular waves. I think some races have had an “AWA” wave but there are for sure some elite AG athletes that are not AWA.

What about those of us who *want *to go for the overall win but really have no hope in hell of actually getting it? I think that we should go first.
