Either people love you or they don’t like to pray before races… Congrats for achieving your first objective toward total (triathlon) “world” domination!
Congratulations: But the numbers are so low, hopefully that is good news for the petition, your high number of dedicated followers may be enough to get it through. There is going to be alot on your agenda to deal with, hope this is really what you wanted. At least you know you have support here!
Congrats Dan! I am one of those 781 and proud of my vote. Quite a landslide…just like the TTT today. Not don’t start acting like a politician and doing 180’s on us. I will hoist a cold one in your honor tonight. This is a good day for triathlon in the US.
Anybody have the inside scoop on why Tim Yount resigned? The website says a statement will follow. Will it be an accurate statement, or more drivel like when they posted that Locke had resigned, but stated it was for health reasons?
depends on how you look at it. i believe this represents about a 50% increase over the last election. when you consider that there were no ballots taken at events or club meetings, that everyone had to personally mail a ballot, that the ballots were kind of funky and needed to be folded correctly, etc., only 2 weeks to vote, and all that, quite an impressive turnout.

Tim got a better offer. It will be USAT’s loss and a very big one.
tim will land on his feet. he did a lot of good things during his 16 years at USAT and he will be missed. i (personally) think it’s best for his career for him to move forward, because he deserves to be an executive director somewhere and that’ll most likely happen if he has a bit broader experience in multiple sports organizations (i don’t know this is where he’s going, but i’d suspect it is).
as for USAT’s website, their ability to FTP has been disabled, they’re working on fixing it now. both election results and further info on tim yount will be forthcoming on that site.
No. Jack’s from Texas, which has a large tri contingent. The hometown guy almost always gets most of the hometown vote. I’d be willing to bet that if you could look at where most of his votes came from, they’d be from Texas.
EDIT
Disclaimer: This is not to say Jack won’t do a great job. Nor is it intended to be at all disparaging to Jack. However, he probably did benefit from the larger pool of Texan voters in his region.
<< acting e.d. and 12 or 15 year veteran of USAT tim yount resigned, and gave 2 weeks notice.
the one thing that bothers me most about this, well aside from losing someone that was extremely dedicated to his job, is that now the door has been opened very wide for S. Locke to just jump right back into his former position as Executive Director.
I know that Dan has said that if elected he would want to consider any and all candidates for the position of ED, and put the most qualified person into that job. But now it looks like things can play right into the hands of S. Locke when it can be considered a very important time to not be without an ED. The Olympics are just around the corner and now we don’t have an ED. So now, Locke can jump forward and “offer” his services, since he has prior experience and lives right there in CO Springs anyways. So much for reform, so much for out with the status quo.
I thought it would be real interesting to see that, if elected whether S. Locke would use it as a springboard to getting back the position that he vacated.
There were a total of 9320 votes cast in this election, less than half of how many people are registered as posters on this board (didn’t Dan say somewhere we are over 20k registered?). So by my estimation, the membership of this message board represents a pretty big slice of the pie and I think it’s time that S. Locke took the time to come on here and settle a couple of things.
Specifically, do you plan to use this election and the obtaining of a seat on the BOD as a springboard back to the position of Executive Director?
I do not work for USAT, however I am close to some who do. I get the impression that this is the absolute last thing they wanted to see happen. Much “Pork” has been hired to the staff since Lockes departure(or since Yount took over the reigns as acting ED, it’s the same) - most notably a new Owned Events coordinator and assitants to the Marketing, Membership, and Sanctioning Directors. Currently many of these employees have enough time to just barely keep up with day-to-day operations. These are also employees who make very little money and work 45-55 hours a week when they could find jobs they are more qualified for that pay better and don’t work them as hard elsewhere. I would imagine that returning USAT to it’s previous “skeleton staff” is somewhat likely. Knowing what the current staffs workload is, I can’t even fathom how bad it was before. If the members knew what most of these people made(ED not included), how much was asked of them, and how hamstrung they were ‘back in the day’, they would be shocked. There most likely will be other consequences. For example, Locke made business agreements to contract out certain things - i.e. most of their data processing. Entering new members into databases, displaying results, calculating rankings, etc. I’ve always found this aspect of USAT to be beyond pathetic.(starting with personal experience when I first became a member) Turns out they don’t do any of it - it’s outsourced. No big deal, except the incompetence of those who have the contract is staggering. Why do you think it usually takes MONTHS for rankings to show up on the USAT website? Why do you think the Search/Filter criteria on the race calender is so woeful? Or the results? It’s not USAT’s fault - it’s now beyond their control. Don’t worry, though. Now that Locke’s position has been solidified, I’m sure we can expect more of the same. Things seemed to be changing for the better. As the president of my local tri club, I received a very detailed email from the owned events coordinator today, explaining very clearly how the AG National championships were going to work this year. In years past, triathlon had managed to make qualifying the most enigmatic thing one could possibly do. I expect a return to the “good old days” when USAT seemed to have no direction. I noticed positive changes in the past 6 months or so. And I’m proven otherwise, I expect most of those changes to be undone. It’s unfortunate the employees won’t/can’t talk. edit to add that it’s my hope that Slowman does not follow the 'slate’s direction. I don’t think he will, and I have guarded optimism towards him.
Yes, Jack did benefit from the Texas contingent. But we are also from the SMW region, which happens to be one of the largest. Congrats to the winners and lets hope they do us all justice…
