Anybody going? I’m headed out Wed. p.m. from Chicago with a couple friends. We’re planning to ride Thursday (~60 mi), Friday (~40 mi), el Tour on Saturday and possibly a climb up Mt. Lemmon on Sunday before heading home. Any takers?
i might come down for the weekend. i have some friends who want to break 5hr and I offered to be their bitch for 2 hours before taking a shortcut back to the house (after all it falls during my break from the bike). I’ll let you know if I head down.
Great! If I remember correctly, you’re familiar with the fine work of the folks at the Yuengling brewery. We’ll definitely be doing some ‘rehydration’ during our stay - I’d be happy to buy ya a beer if you make it down. I’m considering shooting for 5 hours as well…maybe I’ll end up sucking wheel with your crew. I’ll PM you with some info - hotel, cell #, etc.
your correct, I have sampled many many fine yuengling beers. None though have I seen in AZ. The rehydration aspect is the best incentive for heading down.
I’ll be at el Tour - i’m actually trying to find someone to run with on Thursday after the expo if yous-guys are interested…
Friday night I’m going to the Bicycle Ranch dinner.
I’ll be at the Trek booth all day Thursday & Friday
ian.
ya Im heading down from phoenix on friday night and doing the 100 miler. Gonna shoot to break the 6hr mark. I’m thinking of doing some mtn biking Sunday down there but would like to get in some more road miles. Mt. Lemmon sounds pretty good… let me know if ya’ll plan on doing it.
I’m packing my running shoes and I’d definitely like to get in some EZ miles. I think we’ll be at the dinner as well, and I wouldn’t miss the expo. I’ll try to stop by the Trek booth and look ya’ up. Will you be wearing a pink carnation on your lapel, or how am I gonna know who to ask for? Gotta promise not to kill me on the run though…I’m already sliding into my winter/fat mode.
Mike
I probably won’t have a pink carnation on, but i will be in a Trek Travel t-shirt! plus there will only be three of us working there - so you’ll have a 33% chance of picking the right person.
i’m going to aim to run after the expo about 6pm on Thursday. Run will be EZ for sure.
you can head right out of the convention center towards the freeway and get on the Santa Cruz river path. 9 miles for a loop of it. Running through the barrio may not be the best idea.
You guys wouldn’t believe all the work that goes into putting that thing on. I worked for PBAA doing ad sales for Tailwinds and the expo booth sales ( a record setting year in # of booths at the expo and revenue I might add). El tour week my schedule was 4am -11pm.
Ian - good to meet you at el Tour. Sorry the run didn’t work out - I didn’t run a step the whole time we were there, but we did get in 275 miles on the bike. Hope el Tour went well for you.
Mike
Mike - sorry for the confusion on the run - i thought you were going to be in town on Thursday.
Good work on riding that much. I ran 20 minutes after the 111 miles - wow that was hard. but i was really happy with the ride - 4:32… It’s a great event. Hope you were happy with your day!
No sweat. We got into town late Wed and did a longer-than-planned-due-to-a-missed-turn ride Thursday a.m. By the time we got to the expo, you guys were closing up shop. I would have been pretty much worthless if I’d tried to run anyway…Gate’s Pass did me in! Congrats on a great time at el Tour…couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day…o.k., the headwinds the last 10 miles were a drag, but wow what an event!
