if you want a bike to ride a couple times a year for a “recreational” ride then they are fine. But if you are looking for an entry level race/training bike, they are not the answer. They, more specifically the components, will fall apart and require alot of tuning up/ repair/ replacing to keep in good running order.

What if a gradual process of upgrading components is part of the plan? I’ll likely need to do the same thing with 20-year old Raleigh road bike I am currently using.
