Effects of changing stem angle

I am currently using a 120mm stem with -10* angle.

If I were to go to a -17* stem…

  1. How much would it end up lowering the front?

  2. Would I stick with the same length or go longer?

NOTE: I don’t plan on moving the saddle forward much. I’m already riding at 80* effective STA.

Thanks.

Steve

this isn’t exactly what it was you were asking about, but i found out something sort of interesting in the last week. i’ve been riding my road bike with a -17 and 3.2cm of spacers. i moved to -10 and 2cm of spacers or thereabouts, to get about the same coordinates, but with less steerer under the stem.

with the spacers and the -17, if i rode with one hand on the bars and the other not on the bars, i had a slight wobble. not a death wobble, but the precursor to a death wobble most likely (should i do this at 45mph instead of 25mph). with the -10 and half the spacers, same thing, but no wobble.

i sort of expected this, but at the same time was a little surprised when it occurred. i’m not a fan of spacers, but this little experiment was another validation of that sentiment.

Spacers? What’s a spacer?

Spacers? What’s a spacer?

You know, those things you put above the stem before you whack off the last centimeter or two.
