I’ve seen a lot of these listings with this image, or something like it, posted in it. Does this look like a scam to you? Have you ever contacted them?
let’s see…>$5,000 bike for $1,300.00–but don’t bid, contact the seller directly at a hotmail account… Sure, seems legit to me.
I’ve done about 300 ebay transactions without a problem. The seller is a power seller with 484 transactions and a 100% rating, so he seems legit. However, notice further down the page he has a $1300. buy it now price. I assume he’ll pull the ad if he doesn’t get bids close to that.
2 Rules with EBAY
1.Improper english is a BAD sign…“Please contact me to my email”??? is what it said.
- IF it seems like too good a deal it is too good a deal.
Look at the other bikes he’s selling. It makes you wonder.
No way. I would definitely stay away from this auction! Looks like a hijacked listing/eBay account.
When you place an item on ebay, you have the option of using a photo that is already on their site. So sometimes, you’ll see the same photo a lot.
Might be hijacked though, he/she specializes in sports cards
We offer a wide varitey of collectible cards including: Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic the Gathering, Star Wars Miniatures, and other hard to find collectibles.
Seems strange to me at first.
Cons:
broken english (“contact me to my email”) in places, and excellent english in others
email him outside ebay first before bidding
store name = south dakotas best, yet location is waterloo, IA?
why does each bike for sale have a different background? i.e. pics not taken in same place
But then as I looked further…
Pros:
good feedback
sells a number of different products, not just semi-expensive bikes
Most importantly, there is a phone number on there. Just call the place & ask about the concerns.
Absolutely not. This looks like a classic hacked acount… misspelling, wants to contact outside of ebay, no previous bike sales…
Look at the history. I dont think anyone goes from selling basball cards to having a large stock of assorted expensive bikes.
I know it may be tempting but stay away, I almost got into one of these scams with a tri bike.

that doesn’t matter. someone unfortunately hacked his account. The actual seller has nothing to do with the ad, most likely.
Its a violation of e bay policy to use e bay and then conduct transaction outside of e bay. My bet is he would then ask you to western union or moneygram the payment to him (both of which are untraceable) instead of using pay pal. If he does request pay pal then at least you would have protection although probably a ton of paperwork to fill out to get it. My advice, pay a little more somewhere else and have peace of mind.
I now agree, it is probably a hacked account.
But as I mentioned, there is a phone number on there for south dakotas best. Dial them up & ask if the ad is legit. If it is not, you have done that guy a favor by alerting him that his account has been compromised.
After looking around a bit, it does look like a hijacked account. If you look at all the baseball cards and such, the seller doesn’t use that format to list anything else.
I think I’ll stay away
I saw a similar listing for a brand new Cervelo P3C fully loaded with Dura-ace and Zipps for $1,800. It is completely bogus and I reported it to e-bay. If you keep your eye on the listing they will remove it and relist it all the time…that way its harder for e-bay to catch them. I was able to get the cervelo listings delieted and the seller banned, but its all to easy for them to set up new accounts. Long story short…STAY AWAY!!!
he also has some Tannoy Westminster speakers up for auction. Hey, those are $1,300.00, too! Horn-loaded drivers aren’t my thing, but they go for over 30K normally. I’d hop on that before the bike…
Clearly a hacked account. Click on any of the transactions in the seller’s feedbacks and the listings all have a different format than this one. Don’t even bother to call or write him.
I have been doing ebay for years now. If it looks to good to be true beware! Other poster is right on about the broken english in the ad. Notice how he said he would cancel bids? contact him first. My guess is he will email you to pay directly to his paypal account with out going through ebay. At that point you are screwed and out your money. Ebay or paypal (ebay co.) will do nothing for you since it is outside of ebay.
Without question, a hacked account. Stay away, and even better, report the auction to Ebay. They will take it down immediately. I hate crap like this. Makes me really appreciate the ST classifieds.
Absolutely a scam. There’s a whole bunch like that on eBay today. They hijacked the account of someone with good feedback, posted a pic from a former ad, and ask for contact outside of eBay. DON’T TOUCH!!!
I liked how one of them said to contact outside of eBay because their eBay email address was being updated. Really??? That takes what, 3, 4 seconds to update?
One of them (since pulled) was for a fancy Time bike that just sold for $6,000+. The fake ad had a BIN of $1,200.
Run Away!

Did that. And dropped an email to SDB, letting him know he prolly got hacked.
