It’s for a good cause and I appreciate that, but at now over 30k, it is unreal to me what people will pay for just a bloody race entry. Maybe it is a fantastic tax write off for somebody?
If you think of it as a $30K donation to the YMCA that comes with a free entry to Kona, then maybe it doesn’t sound so bad. 100% of the money does go to the Kona Family YMCA building fund.

To add to that, WTC pays all of the Ebay costs which means that 100% of the auction price goes to the Kona YMCA, no less.
Do you know that if you walked up to somebody in the street and asked them, "How would you like to swim 2 miles in the ocean on a hot windy day, immediately go bike 100 miles, on a hot windy day, then immediately go run a marathon, in beating, hellish heat for $33,000: they’d say: “33,000. No way. I wouldn’t do it for $50,000.”
Then you have to explain that, no, that people are paying to do that on Ebay.
Last year Michael Dell bought an auctioned Kona slot for his wife Susan. He can afford it.
