Eating on the Bike

What are you using to hold your food during the bike leg for 1/2 and full IM distance events? Bento Box, AeroPocket? I want to consider wind resistance.

I have a mini Bento Box, and I put an extra gel and bar in my racing top. But, I just converted to the box. Better get some opinions from more experienced folk.

You should also consider the aerodynamic qualities of the foods you eat. A banana, being bullet shaped, has a low coefficient of drag. A long narrow bar, like a powerbar, is better than a short, stout bar, like a Clif.

A Bento box will hold 2 powerbars, 6 gels, and your salt tablets, and mounts behind the stem, so there is little or no additional drag. That’s what I use.

If you stuff your mouth with as many sweet potato fries as you can in T1, you’ll have no wind resistance to worry about and you won’t need to spend your $ on a storage device.

I recommend a very large backpack that can hold a George Foreman grill for the barbeque at the halfway point.

now we’re talking.
