I’ve got to lose 20lbs. In order to loose weight is it better to train right after work, which for me is after 6:30, then eat dinner or eat dinner, then train 2 hours later. I already run or swim before work almost every day.
I would eat whatever it takes for you to get through your workouts feeling strong. I wouldn’t use training time as the time your trying to lose wieght. Training should be done to get stronger and faster. Attack your weight goals with your daily eating habits. Eat less, eat better foods, and be a little hungry throughout the day but make make sure you fuel properly to get the maximum out of your workout. I’m in the same process as you right now and ended up walkng for 30 minutes of my run this morning because I bonked big time. Good luck with the weight.
Tom-Thanks for the advice, but I think you are missing my point. I’m going to eat and I’m going to workout, it does not matter to me in which order, but I think one of the two would be more beneficial to loosing weight!
I would say train then eat if only because it is hard to train on a full stomache. Also, your body is more ready to use the nutrients after you train to replentish glycogen stores and repair the muscle damage.
If you are biking, I know I can bike pretty hard with a full load of food. Can you?
I would never work out without eating first. I’ve been doing it for almost 50 years, and I’m not about to stop now, regardless of what some hotshot physiologist tells me. ![]()
My old training partner rarely eats before he runs. He takes a small cup of coffee and then buries me in the run. ![]()
