Easy cabling quesiton P2K

I noticed the other day that my rear tire is rubbing against the cable to my front derailluer. I had tried to push the tire as close to the cutout as possible but the cable bows a little and is rubbing the tire. I guess I will need to have it recabled, but was this a bad cable job or am I just pushing the tire too far forward?

I don’t really get it, but mine is cabled different (proud to say I did it myself!!). It looks like yours is looped under the BB. Mine is not but goes above the BB and then strait up to the fr. der., so it’s not an issue.

I can send you some photos on a PM a bit later if you like.

I have cabled a few P2Ks like yours myself: the problem is that your housing is a hair too long…

That would be great. I didn’t cable this originally and would just like get it done so it is optimal. Thanks guys.

I would replace that section of the cable housing. I have seen cable housing fail from being rubbed, nicked, etc. When you replace the cable housing loop, trim a little off at a time until it wraps closely to the bottom bracket shell. Just make sure you don’t cut it too short, or the housing may shift in the cable stops and affect your shifting. Once you get the housing cut to fit, it may help to install the inner cable into the housing before you put the housing into the cable stops. With a really tight bend like that, the end of the cable may dig into the liner when you are pushing it through the housing. Once the cable is in there, there in very little friction, and the tighter bend may actually improve your shifting performance.

Good luck!
