Easton or Vision basebar and aerobar

Well I have been on Syntace Stratos base bar and C2 for over 5 years and I am upgrading my Dual to the Easton Aero forks and doing new aerobars. I love the look of the new Easton set-up (base and aero) and they seem very light. I also like the Vision (base and aero) set-up. I will be setting this up with my Syntace F99 stem which should allow for a very light set-up and very adjustable.

My LBS can get me a kicking deal on the Easton bars but they will still cost me more than the Vision set-up which he can get me a great deal on as well.

I just wanted to know what you guys thought of both set-ups and if there was any positive or negatives other than the price.

Stratos and C-2s huh? Well, I succumbed to the “cool factor” last year and changed my long time set-up to the Carbon X integrated stem/ bar/aerobar and after struggling to find my previous comfort on my previous set-up, $350 later I am back to my original set-up (separate stem/PD aerowing basebar and syntace C-2s). Like the old addage says, “If it aint’ broken, don’t fix it.” Look at all the problems Marisol is having with her set-up after she recently changed. On the other hand, if you just gotta have the new set-up for whatever reason, good luck and go for it! It’s guys like you and I that keep bike shops in business.

No too worried about the cool factor, I normally change over my parts after about 5 years. They have taken a beating over that time and when I bought the Dual I asked the shop to lower the price and not include the base bar, aerobar and stem. Since I had the Syntace stem, base and aero at the time on my TCR. Now that I am doing an upgrade on the Dual, I want to do the aerobar set-up as well. It was in the master plan from the start. So the Dual will be Ultegra 9 speed, FSA Compact cranks, have a carbon post, and Hed wheels. Should be nice but I just have to figure out the aerobar part now. The Easton looks great and is full carbon. The Vision is aluminum base bar and carbon aerobars.

Just wanted to know if anyone was using either set-up and what they thought of them. I know that a lot are using the Vision set-up but have not heard of many on the Easton set-up.

I think you’re Dual will rock with either set-up. I know the Vision comes in different lengths so as far as adjustability is concerned, once you select your length, your fore and aft is fixed. But that’s kinda’ the way it is with the Syntace as well so it shouldn’t be a problem for you. The Easton look great, retail price of around $500 (I know you said you got a good deal) seems a bit much. I dig the look of the Vision base bar, aerobar, sizemore stem combo—all of which could be had for around $200 retail. Also consider the new profile design T2 below

If I were you I’d just stick to a standard base bar- you have more adjustability. I don’t like the wing style bars because you tend to have less to grab on to near the brake levers. Not very confidence-inspiring on rough roads. I currently have a wing type bar but am switching back.

I will have to do some more research and try to figure out what will work best for me. I think the Easton is very similar to the C2 in shape but in carbon. Not sure about the wing bar but can it really be that bad. The vision set-up seems to be on everything these days but I would like to do the carbon aerobars.

I have the Easton set up - both the delta base bar and the clip ons.

Extremely light and yes -they look cool - someone had suggested that the wing style base bars limit your positioning.

On the Eastone Delta base bar - I have more hand positions than I had with my syntace base bar. The wing section is not that deep that you can;t grab over the front with your hands - actually under the elbow pads and c;imb like that if you are not comfortable out on the brakes.

There is PLENTY of base bar to hold in a multitude of positions.
