Easton Delta Force Aerobars

Curious as to who has these bars and your thoughts. What are the advantages over a integrated system? They are apparently fairly light at 520 g. Currently have HED aerobars and would like a bit more to hold on to when out of the aero position.

Bump!

They aren’t cheap, for that reason alone you probably won’t find many people here who have used them.
If you are running an Easton fork/wheels/ect… then go for it, otherwise I’d stick with some nice Profile or Syntace.

Dont the “Delta Force” bars have zip guns built into the ends? I think that they fit a 12 guage shotgun shell to shoot anyone who is in front of you…

I have them and love them - a lot of hand position options - nice and confoirtable.

Not a mjor drop on the base bar - but there is a drop there (subtle)

The clip ons are similar to syntace - by design - I am thinking of cutting the ends of the clip ons down by about an inch - apart from that - no need for any adjustments!

And apart from that - they do look cool!!!

Do you find them to be fairly adjustable? I am 5’9" and am thinking about the the size medium bars, and the 42 cm bullhorns. I like the shotgun suggestion, that would eliminate drafting penalty issues!

I have used them and they are great. Very light. Very comfortable, very sexy.

Jack that is the set up I am on - and I am 6ft tall - you’ll be fine - but if possible - find a LBS with them in stock and ask them to get them out for you and let you see and feel the set up
.

Astronomically expensive. get a 2nd mortage before you buy…

I"m 5’9" and find the small clip ons fit me better than the medium. I cut about 1/2" -1" off the ends.

I’m also using the 42cm base bar.

Word on the street is they aren’t as aero as other similer high end bars like HED and Vision Tech.

depends which street you are getting your word on!!!

The street with the wind tunnel on it.

Let’s see the data and discuss!

Ask Cerveloguy. He has all the answers. I was convinced.

Can someone who has the bullhorn bar measure how much the bar drops and, more importantly, how long the side bars/handles are? Thanks!

I love my Hed carbon bar when in aero. But since it’s flat, it isn’t far enough below the armrests to be low when on the bar, and despite being swept forward, it doesn’t have anywhere near enough reach. Funny thing is they advertise it to have the hoods position in the same place as on your road bike. Huh??? Maybe if you have a stem that’s 3cm too short on your roadie!

I would but I am worried I’ll hear about the benefits of a disc covers vs a disc. (No offense C Guy)

Some tri related items are purchased based on aerodynamics - some are based on looks and some are based on fit and comfort.

My Eastons enabled me to get more aero and more comfortable than the stock gear that came on my new bike - which were nice bars in their own right. This was critical for me for long training and races

So why did I choose the Eastons?

  1. Comfort and fit

  2. Light weight combo of base and clip ons

  3. Availability at LBS

  4. Did I mention comfort and fit?

  5. Aerodynamics seemed to be great based on my own observations and the claims of the LBS

  6. Affordability was not an issue for me - and yes - they are expensive - but get anything carbon now - base and clip ons - or a one piece - and they are all priced similarly

  7. They looked ultra cool

Jack had identified a shortcoming in his Hed set up as did Aztec - they are looking at options based on the difference in set up - off the aero bars.

The Eastons DO offer a lower position on the base bar - which is what they are both seeking

I love the HED bars - don’t get me wrong - but never once did this thread revolve around aerodynamics.

You can have he most aero set up - but have it set up poorly - a steerer tube full of spacers for example - a stem too short or too long - just to name a few - or not be able to stay aeor due to discomfort.

Aztec - I’ll try to get that info over to you tomorrow

I have had mine for 5 mos. - a few thousand miles - and could not be happier. I ruled out the HED/Oval bars immediately when I realized that the only comfortable hand position was on the extensions if you have large hands. It seems like most of the races/training I do have major climbs and I use the entire bar set-up not just the extensions.

The points you make are all good ones except one, you usually can’t trust what the LBS tells you, not always but usually. They are trying to sell product.

The Easton is a nice bar for all the reasons you mentioned, unfortunately wind tunnel testing showed it to be less aero than a standard Syntace Base bar with clip ons and much less aero than HED or Vision Tech. I was all set to get the Easton 1.5 years ago until I saw the data then I changed to the HED bar which I have been very happy with. I would give you the data if I still had it. Cerveloguy probably could point you in the right direction. Does it make a big difference, probably not, but as I’ve said before, every second counts.

I guess I am fortunate in the my LBS is awesome and I trust the owner 100%.

The seconds lost in aeordynamics for me are more than made up for by the comfort and hand position options all day long.

Suits me and that is what counts.
