I mostly lurk here, but was told more people from Cincinnatti are on ST. So here is goes.
This weekend I am heading up to Cincinnatti. While I’m there, I entered the East Fork Oly. I’ll be the bald headed guy in a St. Louis Triathlon jersey, if you want to introduce yourself. I’m not tapering for this race and have a 2-3 hour easy ride scheduled for saturday. Does anyone know of a good 35-55 mile route near Milford? Or do you think it might be easiest to ride the course twice? I should add that I’ve only been to Cincinnatti 3-4 times visiting my dad. I know very little about the area. Any suggestions?
I will be in Montreal this week-end for did east fork many times. you are staying in milford? that is where most of the group rides go to. There is always the oakley group leaving at 8am… maybe kittycat would ride with you
hey yeah. there are alot of us here in cinti. there might be an organized ride going out or something…or perhaps a group of us can meet out up there and add on to the bike course…
East Fork: easy swim, hilly bike with a hill so bad last year that almost 20% had to walk it! Run is not flat, but not too bad. I did hear that they changed the bike course a little though since the hill was so rough. It made the Oregonia beast at Caesar’s the week before seem easy last year.
Marisol: Hey, congrats at Caesar’s Creek! My usual crew was well represented. Missed you Kitty. Robin Williams ended up 4th overall (not too bad for 46) for the Olympic distance. You guys in the sprint must not have had the big hill since I saw one guy averaged 26.1 mph for the bike, geez!
Marisol: Hey, congrats at Caesar’s Creek! My usual crew was well represented.
Thanks rodney. congrats to you too. i was really happy to PR like that after running 16 miles and doing a 5:30 hour brick this week-end. Maybe I just need a long warm up:-) I am really tired today… about the bike… it was rolling a little but I think the speed was off. It said I av 22.5, but my computer said 21.5…
you might not have seen me but I saw you…I was standing up in the truck yelling for you when you came in on the bike (yes, the crazy lady in turquoise–that was me). also, when you were going out on the bike i was coming in and gave you a shout out then as well. you know how I like to holler n all. anyway, it looked like you were having a good race day!!
my husband was getting antsy, so we left a few cyclists after you came in–i’m know mark went by and we didn’t see him…with that stealthy black talon of his ;).
kc
pS-robin williams…and I missing something? the only robin williams I know of is the actor…perhaps someone I don’t know yet?
Ah, I think I did see you coming in then. I was actually too busy getting around some big van that was only going like 18 mph up the hill out of the park and I was ready to rock on the bike.
I do think the Sprint distance bike measured a bit short (hence the high averages) and run a touch long on the 10K. I think for once the swim was about right or a touch long (usually they are measured short).
There were a good dozen or so locals there, so it was nice to see. Marisol: what’s up with the long bricks you have been doing? You (or your couch) must like punishment
Robin (and her husband Bruce) are terrific triathletes - usually 1st in their AG and top overall, despite being 46 and 47. They are also from Montreal (like Marisol) so I think there is something in the water there … I think if I get another Guru (or Cervelo), I might just go up there while it is being built and try to glean some extra speed via osmosis
Stick around next time Kitty! Going to East Fork? I’ll be there.
I did Ceasar Creek last year. Got to town with my 11-21 and purchased a 12-25 the day before the race. I’ll remember to bring the 12-25 again. The hardest part of the Oregonia beast last year was the flat I got 200yds after the top.
“Marisol: what’s up with the long bricks you have been doing? You (or your couch) must like punishment :)”
I am training for Kona! Believe me, I am feeling it today… i am beat… you should see my house, total zoo. All I did is work, tried to run and read people magazine… I am bummed I am missing east fork. i know robyn… she usually kicks my ass:-)
yes, the cars. i called scott erdman today about that in attempts to see if there is something that could be done about that road not being closed off… i can give you more scoop later on that if you’re interested.
i would have stuck around, but my husband was getting impatient. funny how just watching wears him out so much…lol.
at this point i’m not registered for east fork, but will consider it. i had good luck with my knee, so i believe i can push it more next time. i’m going to start running 2 times a week now and gradually add mileage to one day, and go from there…I’m quite excited about it!!
as for the distance on the sprint, my cyclometer was right on. shannon flew like a bat out of hell which could make it seem that way, but it wasn’t–i was told he was pumped, riding a brand new bike and coming from a lay off. like i told marisol, magic can happen on any given race day, and it did for alot of people (plus i think there were some generous tail winds at some points )
Yeah, Shanon said this was his first race in a while - interesting that he raced AG and not Elite. Didn’t see his new bike - I always have a PR on a new bike He usually averages high 24 to 25 mph though and an extra 1 mph is a lot at those speeds. Must have been some good tailwinds (although I didn’t seem to have them on the OLY course
Hey, great! If your husband doesn’t want to stay around at East fork, I can come pick you up. My wife and kids were at Caesar’s, but won’t be coming to East Fork. I hate driving out there early in the am alone anyway.
that’s a nice offer. I’ll admit that if you pick me up that would help. it just sucks so much for me to get up early…as much as i try to be more of a morning person it’s still unnatural. I can let you know tomorrow…
at the race i wondered if your wife was there–just didn’t see her. please mention to her that i have a (non triathlete) friend of mine who has just joined tri health…maybe we could all meet up for a casual cardio session sometime.
Us Columbus guys think Cinci is like the alps on the TDF.
But if you like cornfields we have many of those. It is so hillbilly here, someday I’ll move back to Cleveland, you know, where the classy people live.
