After DNFing Kansas earlier this year (collapsed on the course with a heat stroke) I have been attempting to spend as much time training outdoors in our wonderful midwest heat and humidity as possible to ensure my body is well conditioned to the heat for Chattanooga.
Chattanooga is 2 weeks out and it is currently 46 degrees this morning in St. Louis. From what I have read on past threads it takes your body around 2 weeks to acclimate to climate changes and I am trying to prevent this as I know I am heat sensitive. With such would it be better for me to do my long run and bike this weekend indoors with a space heater in the room? Pretty sure this wouldn’t have crossed my mind if I wouldn’t have had that thermometer shoved up my ass 6 times in Kansas.
assuming the indoors is around 70 degrees already, just doing a run/ride by itself sans heater will probably get your body temps up quite quickly due to the inadequate cooling aspect generally found indoors already.
I’m having the same problem. I’m doing Cozumel this year. I’m in the Chicago suburbs. I planned to do an organized century ride this morning but the wind chill was 33 degrees! It’s still summer, right?!? I’m sitting here waiting for it to hit 50 and I’ll go do my own century ride. This could get ugly…
Same situation! Michigan, next to Lake Michigan with winds of 20-25mph from the north and west. 55 degrees and hoping to get out in just a bit. Cool tomorrow also and my last long run was 60 degrees with a cool wind. We had it good for a while with heat and humidity but now not so much!
