Eagle Man?

From an e-mail sent to me:

The EagleMan Ironman 70.3 Triathlon, June 11, 2006

1.2 mile swim- 56 mile bike- 13.1 mile run

Hawaii Ironman Qualifier and Ironman NA Lake Placid, Wisconsin, Florida Qualifier AND Charter Member Race of The New 70.3 World Championship Series AND

All New Aqua -Bike Format; 1.2 mile swim and 56 mile Bike

Does anyone know what ‘all new aqua-bike format’ means.

We ride underwater? Through the marsh? What?

It means you don’t do the run…just the swim and bike. USAT created it earlier this year with the goal of including people who can’t (injury) or don’t want to run, but still want to participate in races.

Aquabikers will only do the swim and bike, that’s it. I’m hoping these people are sent off in the last wave with relays. Competitors sprinting to the finish of the bike would be a mess.

Especially at Eagleman. The bike finish is narrow and has no run-out after the line. I suspect that the aquabikers will finish somewhere else. At least I hope so. Or maybe they’ll be required to dismount first and run to the finish. Now that’d be fun to watch.

Ok, thanks for clueing me in guys.
