I’m doing Lanzarote IM in May but unfortunatly I won’t have the opportunity to go there in advance to check the (bike) course out. Does anyone know if there exists a DVD from the race or, even better, from the entire bike course?
bump, stick
.
I don’t know of any DVDs from the course.
But with today’s technology wonders (Google Earth), you can get a quite accurate idea of what the course is like!
Lanzarote is a small island, with few roads - you can easily look at the course maps and retrace them in Google Earth.
I’ve participated to the 2005 edition, and I can further tell you that:
You can expect hot temps and strong winds for the whole day.
Strong winds and waves can be a nuisance during open-water swims. Learn to handle them! The bike course is hilly and extremely windy. In 2005, there were bike crashes reported due to those strong winds (especially on the descent from the Mirador del Rio)
The run course is mostly flat. As it is a 4x10km loop, you can arrange to see your fan-club / family / significant other 8 times during your run ![]()
I must add that despite being my slowest IM, Lanzarote has been the most fun and most memorable triathlon to date. The island is a gem! If your goal is just to finish, you will have a blast!
No video, but I shot some photos riding on the island last year:

TV DVDs of the race here http://www.ironmanlanzarote.com/Sales.htm
It also appears that the bloke who put this up sells DVD of the bike course itself
Thanks man, great pics!
Looks nice, but then again the wind is not visible in the pictures…
Thank you! I’ll email the youtube guy.
