…now that I’m done with my upgrades, I wanted to pass on some great deals I found. Cambriabike.com has 7701 cranksets on sale for $179.99…and the 7700 are $169.99. Not many places are even coming close to this, so if you’re looking to upgrade - this is great deal.
Also - everyone I talked to said that DA 9 speed is sold-out until late summer…so if you’re looking, buy quickly. I can’t seem to find new cassettes anywhere…unless I want to pay an arm and a leg for one. Performance said they’re out of stock for another month or so…
Thought I’d throw that out there…great prices to be had!
It is amazing that the new Shimano 19 speed comes out and you can’t get the nine speed stuff for " a while". It is also amazing the the new stuff is almost double the cost. Yes I can see where the new crank is different, and I like the skinnier hoods of the ten speed sti, but the “new” brakes, barcons, and derailleurs look the same and cost twice as much. Just my thoughts. G
"Unless of course that you want/like/use 12-21 (12-13-14-15-16-17-18-19-21) - grinning! "
Just sold (also grinning!) a used DA 12-21 on ebay for top dollar. It paid for my new 12-25 SRAM and then some. I live in a hilly area and need more gear.
Our informal understanding is that the production of nine speed Dura-Ace components going forward will be either zero or very close to it.
Shimano has understandably leveraged demand for ten speed by drying up the supply of nine speed, at least that is how it appears.
For that matter- try to find a 10 speed cassette ending in 25 or 27 teeth. Damn near impossible. WE have several customers headed to the World Championships in Madera, Portugal and it has been a living hell coming up with 12-25 10 speed cassettes. The last one we got we had to buy an entire component group to get! That’s basically $1000 for a cassette.
How did the Tour de France ever get over the Col du Galibrier with only 7 speeds?
When I do the randonneur rides I see quite a few guys out there on nicely refurbished 5-7 speeds and they are kicking my ass.
Anyway, isn’t the exchange rate seriously affecting these prices, particularly for the Campy stuff? (noting that the dollar HAS recently risen against the euro, but was tanked) Or, is it, as I suspect, that bike parts are way overpriced?
We should go back to the days when men were men. No derailleurs allowed, just a fixed gear. You’ll be allowed to use a double sided back wheel, and wingnuts on the axles, so that you can stop at the top of the climbs, flip the back wheel to a bigger gear, and start your descent.
