I ran a 20k road race without training for it. This is not going to be a good race year for me so I have been working hard on my bike, and ignoring the swim/run. I also don’t keep a training log unless I’ve got a race planned, but i believe 20k was more than I’ve run in 2-3 weeks total. Finished in 1:49:?? what a cra&&y time. I did however whup the two guys who talked me into this in the first place. Now I’m having a beer and contemplating my grilling choices.
Trying to combo exercise with silly fun, I ran from the finish to the start of a local 10k, and then did a pub crawl from the start to the finish. After 20k and a few beers…I took a long nap.
Got up early and did an 80-85 mile solo ride. It was hot and windy, and I crashed at the halfway point. Front wheel slipped of the pavement (with a six inch jagged lip) and I went down. Luckily, I was at the top of a hill so I wasn’t going fast. I sustained minimal road rash and an annoying cut on my left palm. Got up, everything checked out OK, slid the chain back on and continued riding.
Then I had to go to work, which is where I am right now. I work for a small daily newspaper, and people will need their papers in the morning. I’m going to watch the TdF tonight, even though I already know who won. We get the AP wire, and the AP story has already moved. So I know the outcome, but I still want to watch.
5K run-200M swim duathlon. 27th edition of the race, and it predates run-bike duathlons, so don’t tell them they’re supposed to call it an aquathon.
Very retro/old school. Finish line timing consisted of giving you a tongue depressor with your place on it, and telling you to turn it in at the scorer’s picnic table so they could match place to names in the scorebook.
Much fun, even though it was 82 fucking degrees with 90% humidity by 6:30 am.
Ran a 10K. Had yet another PR. WOO HOO!!!
Rode 90 minutes in the heat and loved every minute of it.
(Anyone in the East Bay want to rent me a room one day/week?)
Drove back to the refrigerator and now, having the recovery drink of champions…Chimay Bleu.
Checking out the fireworks later if I can stay awake that long and the fog doesn’t come in.

Hey Jill,
was that the race in Niceville? If so glad to see it is still around. I did it back in the early years, probably around 1984 or so and won it.
Celebrated my birthday as a proud Canadian born on the 4th of July!!
A short run (And I mean short since I’m in my version of a fat lazy off season)
Brunch with a friend
A weight work out at the gym - noticed I’ve gotten way too soft and I’ve gained way too much weight lately (something is ringing true about my fat lazy off season)
Answered birthday e-mails and phone calls.
Life stuff - laundry, groceries etc…
Fancy five course Italian dinner with the family - too much food and too much wine
More b-day e-mails/phone calls
Bed eventually but not for a while yet - stomach is way too full with way too rich of food and wine.
Only minutes left until my birthday is gone for another year. Such is life.
Walked to Starbucks for coffee and a paper. Took a long walk with Hunny Bunny, I’ve been gone for almost a week and owed him some time. Home to get unpacked from my trip, open a week’s worth of mail. Slipped out to the office for a couple of hours in the afternoon to get a head start on a week’s worth of emails. Watched Le Tour over dinner with a bottle French red wine (gift from Hunny Bunny) Watched the fireworks display from our house. Get caught up on the ST gossip I missed.
