Dumb question on seat to handlebar drop

I was reading the other thread on this topic so I measured my drop, it was 4cm if anyone cares. I then got intrigued by some off the numbers post by other STers. I think the max drop I could acheive on my bike would be 17 cm, given my current setup, how are you guys getting so low?

Look ergostem.

Ritchey Pro Adjustable. It is splined, so it physically cannot slip, unlike an ergostem which uses friction to stay in place. The Ritchey will not go as low as the look ergostem, but also won’t move on you once you set it.

Is that the stem on Larsens Scott bike in this months issue of triathlete? The stem in that picture is pointed strait down ,flush with the head tube.

Good point. My ergostem slipped a few times in the half-season that I used it (as you saw in EP). In fact it slipped on me during some of the rougher sections of road at IMF :frowning:

Soon I am going to start specing my Yaqui frame and with 3 cm less of headtube than my softride I will not need to use the ergostem anymore.

No, The Ritchey is +/-40*. You cannot make it go straight down without some SERIOUS modifications.
