Dumb Question du jour (Hed Tri Spoke)

I put the tire/tube on the new wheel last night. Went to pump it up this morning. I have a pump with a dual attachment, mtb style on the top with the road bike attachment below it, so that the road valve “hole” is about 1/2 inch from the end of the part of the pump that attaches to the valve, with the mtb style hole only about 1/4 inch from the end. The tri-spoke isn’t hollow all the way through the spoke where the valve, comes out–there’s just a recessed area in the spoke there. So, the recess doesn’t seem deep enough for my pump to get in there far enough to attach the right part of the pump to the valve. I can barely get it into the attachment far enough to get the mtb bike style hole onto the valve, but that of course does me no good. Am I being a moron here and there is some way to make this work, or am I just gonna have to get a different style pump? It’s a Serfas Airbones pump, FWIW.

You need one of these (the disc one).

Hid - Here’s another dumb question. Having the same problem as Mr. Mike, i just purchased the disc adapter in the picture you posted. For some reason, when i pump, i cannot get enough air into the tube. Am i supposed to hold with one hand and pump with the other? I tried this but couldn’t push the pump down enough with one hand. Ulike some others, i only have two hands. Any suggestions? Thanks.

jg

and so I attach the bowl of the pipe so to speak of that little guy on the valve stem and attach my pump to the end of the stem (where you would inhale) of the little pipe?

Only 2 hands?!? Are you polishing the bishop with one?

Yes, mr. Crack-smoker…put the pump where you would inhale.

Funny, the shop where I bought my adaptor, called it “the crack-pipe”, too. Just be sure you keep it with your cycling gear in case your car is ever searched at a drug-stop.

greenjt - yeah it’s a pain. Try using your tail :stuck_out_tongue:

“and so I attach the bowl of the pipe so to speak of that little guy on the valve stem and attach my pump to the end of the stem (where you would inhale) of the little pipe?”

yes

I use a long stemmed tube (like for a deep rim) and I"m able to pull the stem toward me enough to use just about any pump head. Might try using a tube with a long stem. Also works with a disk wheel too.

The shop I went to did not have the crack pipe attachment, but they had a little screw on job that converts a pesta valve to a schrader, and I’m able to the Schrader attachment far enough in there to pump 'er up.
