Dumb helmet question

While inspecting my trusty Giro Helios helmet (manufacture date 05/00), I noticed a pencil eraser sized divot in the area of the helmet just above and behind the ear (when wearing) at the margin where the plastic shell meets the uncovered foam.

No idea how this divot materialized. Helmet’s never been wrecked, never touched the ground in anger.

The dumb question: replace, or not?

J, I think I would err on the safe side and replace it, I seem to recall hearing that helmets should be replaced after 3 years as a matter of course due to the foam core degrading with time. Take it your LBS for looking at first, they may feel it is worth sending back for a possible warrenty cover.

I would agree with Julian. At IM NZ, they almost didn’t pass my helmet which is a few years old and suggested I replace it when i got home. I did, wtih the Giro Atmos, Rabobank color design.
