Is anyone else here doing it. I checked out the routes yesterday. The run should be fun, all hill.
Yep, looking forward to it! Weather should be great.
Lower Moncure was paved sometime in the past few days. When you make the right turn from Lower River onto Lower Moncure there is currently a 3 inch rise from the old to new pavement level. Hopefully that will be smoothed out. Everything else looks good!
I’ll be there. I really like this race. The lake is pretty low. So, practice your dolphining!
I’ll be there. First half ever. Toofewbikes is GOING DOWN.
PS Richard - your car is okay.
Bwa ha ha ha!!! Well, Mr Short Course, that’s some good smack talk to the two previous winners also racing. ![]()
Go Paul, Go Marty, Go Richard. And Cid too. Should be a mighty fine race! Looking forward to watching the day unfold.
How are you posting on here and haven’t returned my car yet?! Some friend…
I know you are scared. It’s not too late to back out and do Aaron’s little Town Hall Tri. It’s nice and short - with a long swim.
Hilly bike course keeps the drafters away. At least the run is mostly soft grass and shady. Race sold out for good reasons - great event.
Definitely a great race.
However, the soft grass will be less so this year because it hasn’t rained in like a million years here, so the ground should be nice and hard and dusty. Most are running nearing the noon hour too, which minimizes the shade, at least so I recall. Should be nice and hot too, if same weather patterns persist.
Bike splits should be extra fast this year with so much new, smooth pavement out there. Not sure it’s hilly enough to dissaude the persistent drafters, but it’s a nice thought.
Swim might have some run portions in it like it did a couple years ago during the last drought.
I’ll be there cheering.
Hey World Champ woman! Thats good news about the roads. The easier the better I say, I’ve ridden the course and I think there are plenty enough hills. I donno about the running during the swim though, could be weird. On the guys side the field is FAST, its going to be fun. To watch.
In other news, I returned Richards car with a plate of cookies to appease him.
Thats good to hear that it is a good course. This will be my first half and I am looking forward to it.
Go Cyburg!!!
I am in, love the race, have done it 7 of the last 8 years. Was glad to see the date move up a week, which allowed for a big training week-end over labor day. In my opinion the run course is shady even around the noon hour. Really glad to hear the roads are smoothed out. Now can anyone throw some ice in Jordan Lake to make the temp drop?? ;-).
Peace,
RF
Better to make a wish for calm winds. The winds can create quite a chop and a pretty good surface current. Wearing a wetsuit in these conditions can accentuate the “cork” feeling!
If you are tall (over 6’) watch out for the sign at the run turn around. After I finished I saw or heard at least 3 guys hit the sign with their head - how do you train for that feeling?!
i’m going, tho strictly for the beer afterwards. gotta see if i can drink marty under the table.
I am over 6 feet tall so I will ahve ot keep an eye out then. Oh ya some one mentioned the run was on grass and trails. All I saw the other day when I followed the course map was fress gravel.

This is the start area for the duke 1/2 about two weeks ago. Since then we have had little to no rain. This is going to be interesting.
Peace,
RF
it’s mainly hardpacked grass but there are some fresh gravel sections.
Ya, I saw that boat out there last Sat. I guess that is the prize this year. He or she who can remove it wins it.
