Duke Blue Devil - Hotels

Anybody have any recommendations on where to stay? Looking to be pretty close to the race site without spending to much. The official hotel is the Millinium, has anybody stayed there? Rate seems descent at $99.00/night.

There are plenty of pretty good hotels around Duke due to the Hospital. Don’t know about the Millenium, but there are a host of others at all different price ranges. Go to Duke Med Center website and it will direct you to lodging. Most are only 1-2 miles from the finish on campus. Goodluck.

Thanks. For some reason I didn’t realize that the finish was on campus. I was thinking it was at falls lake. I better look at the website a bit more…

The race site is not very close to the medical center. I wold say it was a twenty to thirty minute drive from the host hotel. Another place to look would be North Raleigh. I don’t have any specific hotels in mind though.

My bad…should have looked. It does stay in and around Falls Lake. It used to finish on the campus, oh well. Sorry.

I would look for hotels near the intersection of Hwy 70 and I-440. The Crabtree Valley area. Anything near the airport (RDU) would be convenient as well. Last year we drove to the race site from Durham using I-40 to I-540 to 50N the drive was quick.

I may actually post something of use here! I live just NE of Wake Forest and maybe 25 min.s from the race site. North Raleigh is a good option and so is Wake Forest. There is a Hampton Inn where you can jump on 98 which will take you straight to 50 and the race site in less than 20 min.'s. If you get into town early there is the Kerr Y in Wakefield Plantation for any pre-race stuff - good quiet place to get a run in.

The Millenium is a nice hotel but also pretty generic and not really walking distance to anything. Good to stay there if you’re just planning on doing race stuff and leaving. In Durham, the Washington Duke Hotel is right off Duke’s campus on their golf course and has a nice jogging trail, etc. and you can walk to/around campus easy. Might be more expensive than the Millenium though. There’s also a Marriott Hotel right downtown and a bunch of other hotels around town. There’s nothing right near the race site so Durham, North Raleigh, or RTP are your best bets. Send me a PM if you need help with anything…I live in Durham and have done the race for the past 3 years.

There are a ton of hotels around Crabtree Valley Mall / Hgwy 70 area. You could just jump on 50 and go straight out to the race site ~20-25 minute drive.

I was hoping to get something really close to the race site, but it doesn’t look like that is a possibility. I am leaning towards near 50 and N Raleigh, just for the ease of getting to the race in the morning.

Thanks everybody

Cary resident here…I am going to go out there to cheer you guys on. Doing my first half (Duke Half) maybe I will see you at the starting line next year…

SetUpInc does a great job with their races, but I just think that (the only Ironman dist in NC) could/would be a bigger deal. This is a pretty active area. You think it would develop into a bigger race.

I am suprised also that more people haven’t signed up. Setup looks to be a 1st class race director. The race being tax deductible and non-WTC associated are big pluses in my book. I really wish North America could generate a Roth type race to give the WTC a bit of competition

There is a motel up 50 (on the other side of Falls Lake) called Lakeside Motel. It is only about 10-15 min from the race sire…you might want to check it out. Goodluck.
