Someone I know has a dui, he has his license back with a blow device in his car. If he wanted to barrow my car which of course does not have a blow device, is he legally allowed to drive my car?
In my state if you start up someone’s car with an interlock or knowingly lend a car w/o an interlock to someone who has been ordered to drive with one you are on your way to jail if they get caught.
No clue, but it’s a really good idea to loan this person the car. Go for it!
I’d say it’s a good excuse not to lend him your car. Just say it’s illegal, plus why would you want to?

I was trying to be helpful, but as I pondered the question I wondered if ‘50+’ was alluding to his age or IQ.
Ask your insurance company. I’m sure they’ll say its fine.
Also watch what happens to your premiums for next year.
If he drives a car without an ignition interlock and gets caught he gets charged Criminally with “Drive Disqualified” and YOUR car gets impounded for 7 days. It doesn’t matter who owns the car, it’s gone for 7 days. And you’re on the hook (pun intended) for the costs of towing and storage.

Don’t do it. It’s a criminal offense, and has financial consequences for you as well.
Edit to add: it’s a 7 day impound in Ontario. It varies by province, and goes up to 30 days.
Thanks and I never said I’d do it I was just wondering. lol

Shit, I was thinking the same. 50+, the answer lays with common sense so use it.

I get that I was just wondering if it was legal. I know they must have a blow device in any vehicle they drive on a regular basis but could not find anything on borrowing someones car.
No. The licence is conditional upon the interlock device. What province are you in again.
Impound procedures vary. In Alberta its 30 days regardless of the owner (borrowed, company vehicle, rental).
You are 100% on the 259(4) charges.
I thought all Canadian cars had those blow devices.
On related note mrs Duffy has to blowe befor I let her use the car.

Thanks man, ontario. I found something that sais it could be 30 days inpound and 5 grand to get it back.

I still think that you should do it.

Lol, you would.
Why would you make HIS problem YOUR problem?

In Ontario that’s pretty accurate. They charge you for towing and storage and it isn’t cheap. You can appeal the decision, but they never give cars back afaik (and I know a few people who have tried).
If he wanted to barrow my car
I let two friends barrow my car once.

Thanks for the replies. I know a few people with DUI’s now, none are what I’d call close friends and will never get near my car it’s just something I’ve been curious about.
