Bang, cannnon goes off and I am standing in the water to the right of the start. This older guy (about 65 probably) stands up right in front of me and has this panicked look in his eyes. Doesnt seem to even know where he is. He is obviously freaked out by the maelstrom of arms and legs around him. He then turns away from me and its obvious his wetsuit is open down to his mid back. I was just going over to help him zip it up and off he swims away, like a floundering turtle. OUCH!!! what a way to start a day.
On an unrelated note, the race is two hours in and it is beautful up here.
Yesterday, at the Racine Sprint, my wetsuit zipper popped open in the first 100 meters. I thought about trying to zip it back up, but it is hard enough on solid ground! Usually the wife zips me up, but she wasn’t there so a fellow athlete helped me. I think they zipped too far and engaged the ‘quick-unzip’. So, I just swam out the rest with sloshing water and heavy arms. What would you have done? (swim was 750m)
On an unrelated note, who knew Racine had such a beautiful beach?
