I’ll do my first Zofingen Duathlon in September. The race web-site has maps & profiles, but missing one important part: How steep are the hills? The profile show only the average climbing grades, which are quite modest, but since the race has a reputation of beeing very though - there must be some very steep hills ?
Thanks
- I’ll do my last preparations on very hilly run trails, and keep my tri-setup on the bike.
The first run has a tough climb to start out… and its two loops…
there are 3 climbs per lap on the bike course. first one isn’t that long ~2-3km and not too steep. The second will get your attention. 5km long, with a 100m section that’s ~18%. That’s Bodenburg. The third climb isn’t bad, ~2-3km and less steep than the 2nd. Bring your climbing gears .
The key is getting to the 2nd run as fresh as possible. The ‘new’ final run isn’t as hilly as the old 15km out & back, but it definelty aint Beachfront Ave. Be prepared for some short steep climbs, and also be prepared to run downhill fast.
PS: if you bring your Tri-Bike, make sure your aerobars have a closed loop… they don’t like bar end shifters…
