I’ll be there. Anyone else?
I’ll be there - not sure if I’m running though.
RRoof, Why might you not be running? I hope its nothing serious.
Chad (cdw) should be there, aiming for top dog

Nothing serious - just a little “overtrained”. Did an OLY this Sun and really felt lethargic with dead legs and was 10 mins slower than last year! IM Lou is my new “A” race (plenty of time), but I’ve been racing too much (did a hilly 10K a few days before the OLY tri as well).
But, it is also 8 mins from my house, so … ![]()
I put up last years Elite Women’s winner from Great Britain at my home (Helen Lawrence) and she was very fun and FAST. Jeez she can run. Made the GB World’s team I think but a bad race there.
I hear that a ST’er may be coming out of retirement at this race.
rroof, I’m glad it’s not serious.
Chad should go well.
Erik Clark, who’s coming out of retirement?
I just bought the plane tickets last week, so it will be a third year in a row for me. I’m happy to know you will be there. Perhaps I will finally have a chance to beat you now that my riding is starting to catch up to my running.
The first time we were ever in the same race (PM Alabama '04) you passed me on the bike after starting in a wave 10 minutes back. Both years I have gone to nationals my ride was definately a liability, but I suspect that will not be the case this year. I ought to be prepared for a hot race since we have been averaging in the 110+ range and the lows usually don’t make it below 80.
I will see you there.
Chad
Chad, I’m looking forward to the challenge. This format does favor the runners (15K:40K), and I’m definitely lacking duathlon run speed after a year off and a slow start to this season. I find you can do well in most tris running in the low to mid 6:00 / mile range, but for duathlon that’s barely MOP. It should be fun.
I’ll be there. No idea what to expect though. Didn’t think I was in very good shape since I haven’t been training much, but then pulled off the 2nd fastest age group bike split on Sunday at the Carlsbad Tri, so maybe I am in better shape then I thought.
You haven’t aged up yet have you John?
Age, Mike? I was hoping we were racing by weight class. Good job on that bike split; maybe they’ll cancel the runs for us?
I’m in the middle of the 45 - 49 group now.
I’m 43, Mike. See you in Mason.

I’m in! Probably should have waited until I’m in better shape! Looking at last years results I’ll be happy with a MOP finish! I’m shooting for a 6:30 - 6:45 pace on the run and just hang on for the bike! I wanted to do it to see if I could compete well in duathlons. I can run in the 5:30 - 6 range…just not for a combined 15k yet!!!
Yup. DNF’d last Sunday at Blackwater. Not quite over the flu/cold thingie after all and I’d still like to make it to Richmond Worlds.
I’ll be there. Training is going well. It’ll be nice to see how I do against the big dogs. So far so good with my training. I’m hopin to be in sub 33 open (flat) 10K shape by then (and then get swallowed on the bike).
rroof, you’ll have to be sure we meet before the day’s over.

I’m in - someone needs to be MOP. Anyone know what the course is like?
The run course is hilly. Two fairly steep hills about 100-150 meters long and several abrupt up and down rollers negoitiated each 5K lap.
The ride course is continuous rolling hills on good pavement. I saw by the course map that they are going counterclockwise this time, which is odd since now you have a bunch of left hand turns and one right. None of the hills are steep or particularly long, but they are relentless. Course is also 41.7K so the times are faster than they look in the results. It ought to be very tough out there at this time of the year unless they have a freakish cold front. Me, I’m hoping for a heat wave and I’ll be right a home.
