Duathlon Nationals Challenge starts now

barring injury, I’ll be there. Will also be at Desert Classic this weekend.

Doing both the Challenge and Nationals.

Would that I had the schedule freedom to come out west!

Hopefully CDW makes it out to the race…I’m sure no matter how out of shape he thinks he is…he would be ok…

I’ll be in Richmond…I’m missing the “World’s Greatest College Weekend” the Little 500 for it, so I better kick ass! I’ll have to watch my team via HDNet. If you’ve never heard of it before, or never seen it, tune into the channel HDNet on Saturday April 25. HDNet is partially owned by IU Alumnus and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban

Little 500 is legendary!

In the challenge not going to Richmond. I like the idea of the challenge to motivate me to get back to more regular training. However, considering the for race registration for worlds is $300 then add another $200 in uniforms it just seems a bit too much to me. Doing two MDOT races this year, so adding worlds would break my Tri/Du piggy bank to pieces.

Peace,
RF

haha, that wasn’t necessarily directed towards you specifically, but anyone who eyes the post. I watched it live for the first time last year in the rain/snow/30 degree weather.

That’s the race featured in the epic “Breaking Away,” is it not?

I’ll be there in 25-29. Stupid age-up rule.

That is correct…if you’ve seen ‘Breaking Away,’ then you know a bit about the Little 500. There have been a few changes in the 25+ years since the movie was produced, but for the most part its the same.

Do the “Cutters” still participate in some form or another? haha

Pretty sure the main character was a doper in that one.

If the intent of this challenge is just for those going to Richmond, that is cool. I can remove myself from the challenge. If it is to get our asses off and train, then I’m all over the overtraining “challenge”.

I was just using it to keep me honest with a reasonably rounded program, so that I can hop on the bike and into the pool when the snow melts and ramp things up quickly in case I decide that I want to go to St. Croix. My historical experience with doing Wildflower and St. Croix is to run and XC ski my face off all winter and then ramp up in the bike in the final month before either of these events and get into the top 10 in my age group (worked twice in each location).

Again, if the party is really intended for du nats studs, then I understand.

Dude…you’re doing enough for 2 or 3 folks…I don’t think you’re in any danger of being off fitness!

No issues with you in the challenge…as the challenge gains members…I’m curious how many are actually going to the race…du needs numbers! And thank Slowman and Mike Plumb for helping put some oomph behind it.

haha, Dave Stoler was not a doper, just merely a BADASS!!!

The real Cutters team was started AFTER the movie…they’ve won 9 championships (I think) since their inception and hold the all-time record. They are the 2x defending champions and have (of course) a top-notch squad this year. The whole movie was filmed in and around the Bloomington area. Its pretty cool to drive around and see what has changed and what remains the same.

The numbers on Sunday and Monday were a big spurt, but likely down to a more sane 6-10K run (4-6x4 points) + 10 mile XC ski (30 pts) per day…so more like ~40-50 pts average on weekdays. I really gotta get in the pool at least once per week which is why I sign up for Tigerchik’s fishie challenges, but keep missing my pool slots!!!

I’ll be in Richmond, but I’m not in the challenge.

Ahh…don’t want to show us how little you’re going to train and still come kick our asses?

After telling the young guys he is going to spank them he does not want to actually post his workouts on ST. Then everyone will know that his real secret is doing Beer Mile 400m repeats with a case of imported Molson Canadian on the sidelines between quarters.

This morning’s workout: 10 min roller warmup ride + 46min 10K run with second last K at 4:05 pace (hilly loop, so there is one large hill in there), just to make myself suffer a bit. (Yeah, I know it is lame and Murphy’s Law is likely lurking and laughing his way to his stealth training log book…)

ML…THAT’s the guy who is out there doing stealth damage!

i hope to do the race. who knows about the course? there are two bridges that it looks like you do out and back on THREE times?
i don’t like bridges. has anyone ridden on these bridges before?

jana

ML is likely logging into ST every day and checking out who is doing what in the online training log and then he’s going to open a can of wooopass at Richmond. I am just glad I won’t be there. I will get to meet him at Timberman and hopefully I have a 5 minute lead off the swim to give me some padding.
