Duathlon (1)

What are the best Duathlons on the East Coast, especially in the South? After a few decades of I’ve decided to return. I used to love to participate in the Coors Light Duathlon Series & love to find another series like this. Can anyone give me some recommendations or point me in the right direction?

thx

Mike

Might be a little further west than your looking. But its a great series!

Same folks that put on the Redman Iron Distance.

Where in the south are you located? Try Richmond Multisports-I will be doing two of their’s which are combined with olympic distance tris. Also try set-up events and go to the duathlon link-I will be doing a du in Cary NC in April.

DD, will text this weekend just to check in. Also, 90kestrel, Desert Dude is a self-professed lover of duathlon so if he says powerman then it must be good.

x2. get ready to hurt on that run!

The Powerman AL long course is 10k-60k-10k with a hill after the 5k that will make you cry for momma! It is a great race as both the run and the bike are hilly enough to separate any possibility of packs or drafting. The run is on a paved road in a park, so it closed to traffic and rural. The bike course is a two loop course that is also closed to traffic so you can see where you are versus the competition. I did it last year and plan on going back for more, it really is that good!

Yeah, the second run at Powerman AL is simply excruciating. Coming from WV and training on hills every day, it never crossed my mind that the run might be “too hilly” for me. Lesson learned. It’s also a deceptively difficult bike course. One minor edit–three 20k loops on the bike, not 2.

Last year while pre-riding the course I spaced out while in awe of the “Alabama red neck, fishing lake, 4 way intersection” (it is an intersection at the end of the bike course where fishing boats can cruise through going E/W and 4 wheel drive trucks can DRIVE THROUGH THE LAKE on a submerged road traveling N/S–I’ve never seen anything like it before or since). I was so amazed that I wrecked at 5 mph and removed all the skin off my left shin and trashed my rear derailleur requiring some bike first aid at the LBS. Tough to be any dumber than that!
