DS Trainers 2007

Every company is coming out with a new “magic Bullet” every new midsole material. Lighter, more cushioned, last longer…well that’s the idea behind the SOLYTE material.

Eric

Do you have any pictures of the new DS Trainers?

Mat

Not with me right now, sorry. I"m at home.

I’ve had the new DS 12 for about a month. I like them a lot. I am about 150lbs. and run 75 miles a week. I’ve got a fairly low arch…slight overpronation. I don’t pound them down…and normally get about 500-600 miles out of my shoes.

This model has a pretty roomy non-restrictive mesh upper. I normally wear a 10…my wear-test is a 10.5…and the fit is about perfect. So you may need to size-up. It has good support in the medial arch. I feel like it rides a little higher (profile) then the past couple of versions. The midsole durometer is about right for my style of running. I slap (forefoot) a bit more in this model than past models. All in all…so far it gets a B+. I think they did a great job on the styling…mine are white /black & red. Different colors than the photo above. Not sure…but I heard the price is going up $10…retail $110? I guess…the old saying less is more…holds true.

Jaret, no doubt you will like this shoe. It will be a good SlowBern killer. : )

Thanks, I need some new racing shoes to beat up on Bernie  Trying to stay with him on the bike is tough.

Seriously working on the run now, want to be ready for TTT.

If that shoe gets a B+, what gets an A, those blue NB’s you have? 701’s?

jaretj

The blue NB’s are actually a model called the M901. It’s New Balance’s attempt at going after some of that DS market which Asics has long dominated. I would give that shoe a C. They will be launching a M902 in Jan./Feb. 07. Ironically, I’ve already done wear-testing on that model also. It’s slightly betterthan the 901…but still not there yet. I’m a bit of a broken record on this…but my favorite is the DS VI. I still own 6 or 7 pairs of them. The 12 will do well for Asics. Throw in some Yankz…and it will be everyone’s new tri-shoe.

Thanks

DS, you break my heart. I hope you enjoyed your trip and race in California!

If they shave lets say, 30grams of the DS trainers, they would be untouchable as the king of lightweight trainers, it would even beat flats

are you sure of that number?

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Taking off 50 grams would make them about as light as the DS-Racers. Then how would the two models be different?

-C

The biggest improvement they could have is to be more durable. They are lighweight more than enough for training (and “long-racing”). And are perfectly suitable for lightweight guys. But the thing is… 600 Km’s logged and we need a new pair.

Other than that… don’t touch it! They are perfect!

You run 600 km in the DS-Trainer? Are you sure? That’s about 250 km more then I get. Are you sure?

-C

Maybe 600 Km is too much. Ok, lets stick with 500 Km. I only weight like 62Kg.

1200km…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Hey Sergio, I take it you use the DS trainer for training? Looked like you used the DS racer in Hawaii.

I’ve always found the DS trainer OK for at least 5-600km. That seems OK with me.

Hey DS, I remember you loving the dsVI and hating the dsIX . I have the 10 and the 11 and can’t really tell much
difference. Is the new one (12) sweeter than these, which I thought were pretty good.

Yes. The new model (the 12) in my opinion is superior to the 10 & 11. The 10 & 11 had issues with forefoot outsole durability…as one of the above photos clearly shows. So far my 12’s have been very durable. I’m starting to get a little heel wear in the AHAR on the back corner…but that’s fairly standard wear.

I think the new model is good…I’m not sure everyone will be thrilled with the price increase.

Is there any difference in the pronation between ds trainer and the 2120?

Oh gee, that’s really a question for Dave or Shawn.

I don’t have the new DS Trainer but my older ones seem to have much less support than my 2120’s.

I use the DS Trainer for racing and fast training so I only have them on my feet maybe once a week.

jaretj

I would consider it (2120)a little more stable because of the nature of the shoe. At 11.3 ounces, compared to the 9.5 ounce ds trainer, it is a more substantial shoe. They both have very simlar features, but i give the nod to the 2120. Even at that, the 2120 doesn’t have a tremendous amount of stability, either. That is, comparing it to other shoes in the category (brooks adrenaline, etc…)
