DS Trainers 2007

Anyone know if the 2007 Asics DS Trainers are available in stores yet? Looking to pick some up in the Philadelphia area next week. Thanks

My local running store said they wouldn’t be shipped to them untill after the new year.

Is the new model any different, or is it just a change of color scheme?

They ARE different, we’ll have them in the next week. If you’re looking for some, we can hook you up. Shoot me a PM.

Eric

Thanks Eric, have sent pm.

how are they different? lighter, more durable?

They are using solyte instead of speva in the soles.

The same change was done between the 2110 and the 2120. That made a difference of about 50 grams per shoe with mine. (allmost 2 ounces)

After looking considerably different, the shoe does, as mentioned utilize the Solyte midsole that the Kayano, and now the 2120 have. The idea is the midsole material will be lighter, “more” cushioned and not break down as quickly. Most people (including myself) think it isn’t as “fluffy” as the SPEVA, but more comfortable.

This may be a stupid question, but will DS trainers work for a person that weights 200 lbs and runs about 50 miles per week?

In all seriousness, “work” is a relative question. This is a lightweight trainer that has mild posting. It Will break down for you more quickly than compared to a kayano. Can it provide enough stability for you? Sure. Would it be my first choice, given other shoes to put you in that had more cushion? Maybe not. But, if it is applicable to you and it can biomechanically work for you, give it a shot. Just remember that if you use it as an everyday shoe, as opposed to a “fast run” shoe, it may take some getting used to if you normally wear a beefy shoe.

Nice answer to a loaded question

Thanks for the reply and information. I should have been more specific with my question. By no means did I intentionally word it with the purpose of being “loaded”. I’m just trying to get smarter on shoes so I can have a better idea as to which ones I should try the next time I purchase a pair.

haha, yeah.

Get to a good specialty store and ask the employees the same questions. If they aren’t knowledgable about it, so that you aren’t comfortable about it…just be polite about it and try another store. Without knowing your mechanics and not seeing you run, it is very difficult for anyone to tell you if a shoe can work. What I can do is ask you what you want to get out of the DS trainer? What is the purpose of trying to go with that shoe in particular? When you narrow down what the purpose of your next particular shoe, then we can get somewhere. Hope that helps.

I personally would warn you against the DS-Trainers… I love mine but I’m 150lbs and pretty light on shoes. As an everyday shoe you’d probably (again depends on your biomechanics) blow through those babies pretty quick. They might work great, and you might love them but logevity wise chances are you’d be coming back every 2-3 months for a pair… The 2120s are a killer shoe that’s only an ounce or so heavier and still lighter than most other competing shoes in it’s class and will work a bit better for a 200lb runner. Still not super long lasting but probably a better mix if you want a light yet at least mildly durable shoe.

If they shave lets say, 30grams of the DS trainers, they would be untouchable as the king of lightweight trainers, it would even beat flats

are you sure of that number?

Oh yes, I work in calibration and have a dozen good scales around the shop. I was very suprised at the difference between the 2110 and the 2120.

I won’t have a pair of the new DS trainers untill after the new year. I’ll weigh them then and report back with some numbers.

Since there isn’t as much cushioning in the DS Trainers, I would expect to see about 30 grams like you suggested.

The biggest improvement they could have is to be more durable. They are lighweight more than enough for training (and “long-racing”). And are perfectly suitable for lightweight guys. But the thing is… 600 Km’s logged and we need a new pair.

Other than that… don’t touch it! They are perfect!

Dumb question, but will the new midsole do anything to prolong the life of the forefoot cushoining? I know the answer, but my question is really will the new model wear longer than the current 150 mile life? I love these shoes for training and racing but it gets expensive!!
